Should a baby carrier cause neck pain?

I’m hoping for some advice from some carrier experts. When DS was born two years ago, he came a little early so I hadn’t gotten around to buying a carrier for him. After a few months I purchased the Ergobaby carrier but didn’t need the newborn insert at that stage. In the end, we never used it much as DS much preferred the freedom and space of his pram bassinet or just lying on a blanket on the floor. In addition, whenever we used it, I developed pain in my neck very quickly. Neck pain is something I tend to get quite easily; I think I am particularly prone to it as I have had severe migraine all my adult life

I’m now pregnant with DC2 and thinking that a carrier would possibly be useful with a newborn and a toddler so I’m considering buying the newborn insert for the Ergobaby. But I don’t want to waste money on buying it only to find that it hurts my neck too much to use it. Does anyone have any insight into this? Was I wearing the Ergobaby incorrectly? Would a different carrier be better for me? Or is my neck just too sensitive for using a carrier?

I realise it’s difficult for strangers on the Internet to answer my questions but just thought I would put it out there to see if anyone has any advice for me.

I'd really recommend popping into your local sling library for advice if you can. It shouldn't cause pain, but it can be down to how you adjust your buckles, I aim for the clip at the back to be closer to my bra strap, but it's hard to explain how to do this without being there in person.

I agree, I reckon you need someone to look at how you're adjusting it and check if it's right. Sling libraries often have dolls you can try out if you're wanting to troubleshoot the carry with a younger baby.

As above, they shouldn't cause pain if fitted correctly - and different slings fit different people properly. I'd try and get to a sling library. I had to cross the straps across my back to sort it for me. I tried an ergo at the sling library but it's very hard to cross the straps without help - if that's what ends up working for you there are better ones out there.

Do you happen to have any pics of you with DS in it? You could blank out faces.
