Has anyone dyed an ergo?

I have a old ergo - was second hand to me, and I used it pretty well every day for about 2 years. It still works fine and am planning to use it for no.2. However, it looks really tatty and the colour is weird - it's like an orange and yellow, don't think they do that colour any more! I was wondering about dying it in the washing machine but don't want to make it look even more tatty and am worried about the dye not taking. Has anyone tried it and what were the results?
