slingers! do I really need a double buggy?

I'm expecting a second when DD will be 3yr 3 months. She's not much of a walker at the moment & always spends some part of an outing in her buggy. We go out a lot. When she was smaller I carried her all the time, up until about 12 months or so. I've been thinking I will do the same this time round, but wondering I am being naive about looking after a toddler & slinging the newborn - pushing DD on the swing with her thudding into me made me think of this!

Similar age gaps in the pushchair threads suggest getting a double, but I wanted to hear from mums who prefer to carry their littles anyway.

Dd was 2.3 and we had the buggy, sling and buggyboard. No double. Really wouldn't have thought you would need a double for a three year old.

We have got a double this time round but tbh am mostly using pram and buggyboard/or empty pram Hmm, sling and buggyboard. Think double may be good when ds2 is bigger. Or in depths of winter... Or if they nap a lot in buggy (neither ds or dd did past 2).

Sling invaluable with toddler + newborn IMO.

DD was 3years and 5months when DS was born and isn't much of a walker either. But I didn't see the point in a double for only a few months even though a freind offered me one for free. DS is now 4 1/2months has been in the puschair only a handfull of times and DD walks mostly. So deffantly diddn't need a double, I think if we where on a full dayout and she got tired I'd just sling DS and let her rest in the pushchair.

I would say you won't need one. By the time younger dc is heavy then older one should be out of single buggy.
My dc4 never used a buggy at all. sling is so much easier

DS1 was 2 years 10 months when DS2 was born. I bought a new buggy - a Baby Jogger - just to treat ourselves because we'd had a rubbish, very old one before.

DS2 has been in it all of twice! He's now 13 weeks. (He hates it, btw.) I put him in the Kari Me all the time, and DS1 is in the buggy or - more and more - walking. Don't get a double, they're nightmares to get round the shops. Smile

(Don't get a Baby JOgger Elite either. It's a monster, heavy and high up. DS1 has problems scrambling into it and he's 3 now.)

DD1 was 3y6m when DD2 was born, never thought to get a double buggy, but she is a walker - hasn't been in the buggy except when sick for over a year, and we don't drive, so walk everywhere.
how about you start getting you first to slowly walk longer distances now? build it up and see how far they can go then decide?

DD was 2.6 when DD was born. From about 6 months preggers I slowly broke her in to walking everywhere, eventually she didn't need the pushchair much at all. Now I mostly sling the baby and get DD to scoot over long distances, works for us!
