sling / carrier for baby to face out in

Hi - can anyone recommend a sling / carrier that faces out but is not a baby bjorn? I do have a sleepy wrap but not sure if you can put your LO facing outwards in it? Is facing outwards even okay, or not recommended (I seem to remember reading something to that effect). Experienced sling wearers, please advise me!

Facing out isn't recommended for a few reasons.

  1. Baby's centre of gravity pulls them away from your body, putting more strain on your shoulders & back

  1. It's impossible to get baby into the optimum position - which is with their legs wrapped around you, knees nice and high, and bum low...think of how a baby monkey holds on.

  1. Baby is very exposed, and cannot hide away from the world if it all gets a bit much. They also cannot see your face, and therefore cannot use your face to "read" the situation or get visual reassurance. Most babies will be absolutely fine facing in for the first few months and can then move to back carries when they get a bit nosier.

Hope that helps.

I agree with justalittle. If you want a confortable sling that enables you to carry your child from birth to a toddler, very confortably on yur front, back or side then try and Ergo. Not facing outwards though.

Take a look at the Lillebaby (www.lillebaby.com/), which is essentially the Ergo but allows your child to face out when they get a bit older and stronger. I used one for my son and loved it, especially for travelling. Though he's now 13+kg and it is a bit much to be carrying him in it.
