Slimming World

Weight loss with SW?

Good morning all,
I am about to start SW today. Although I understand how the plan works/what to eat, I am really confused about how you can actually lose weight on this plan. I'm not a big eater, (my weight gain is mainly due to snacking on sweet things) but looking at what I am allowed to eat has me thinking..isn't my daily calorie count going to be quite high? and therefore will I lose weight? Any information/ advice would be really helpful x

It works by restricting calorie- dense foods, eg the sweet snacks that you say have caused your weight gain.
Although "free foods" don't need to be weighed or measured, you still have to have sensible- sized portions, and a third of your plate has to be "speed foods"', ie vegetables/salad.
It's a calorie-controlled diet, just like any other, but the calorie-counting is done for you.

It's essentially a very low fat eating plan so all of the free food tends to be low cal without actually counting calories.
I'm on week 2 (this time round) and lost 6lbs last week, although week 1 is usually a big loss.
Good luck!

I've lost 6 stone in a year. It works for me. Although there's plenty of free food, don't fall under the illusion that you can eat copious amount because its free. You need to be sensible and have sensible portion sizes. Good luck x

Thank you. I’m chuffed and not hungry at all 😊 I eat more on SW diet than I ever have. It took a few days to understand the jargon and get into the habit of eating 3 meals a day plus extra’s (syns) but once I grasped it it’s easy.

I really need to get started again. I think I need a buddy to try and stick to it.

Wow thank you all for your advice and information. I’m putting on weight daily and need to start ASAP. @JamRolyPolyAnyone well done on your weight loss. @MrsBlobby43 that is fantastic.. so it really does work! I just wondered why sw hadn’t taken off in the states as this is usually an indicator of how successful people are on this diet and also ppl have so many bad things to say about the mindset that this diet puts you in i.e apparently the guilt that sw members feels is worse than when being on other mainstream diets.

It works on calorie density. It worked well for me, lost around 2 stone. I won't defend every part of it, but you do see a lot of misconceptions out there about it.

Slimming World is a highly profitable business. It works by you losing weight, not being able to maintain your target, giving up, putting weight back on and starting over in a viscious cycle.

Damaging for you, £££ for them.

Worked for me 5 stone off in 8 months and maintained for over a year. It's free to target members to maintain. If you follow it properly it works - 1/3 plate speed every meal not massive plates of pasta and an apple after. Works on basis of filling you up on healthy food rather than snacking.

I started 1st Sept and am 2 and a half stone down. I had one week where i maintained but i have lost every single week other than that. I eat more than I ever did, its just healthier food. My main thing I had to cut right down on was wine.

@designmama Still looking for a buddy?

I did really well early part of this year - until about June, then it all went TU. I signed up 2 months ago, and have consistently fluctuated up and down by 3lbs. I know my problem is I have no motivation, I like wine, and right now, mince pies and quality street :( I've forgotten how to meal plan and what to eat!
