Going for an Indian - advice on best curry to eat!!

Hi there

I have been going to slimming world since January and have lost 13lb so far, but am going for a curry with some friends tomorrow. I just wondered if anyone can tell me which curry is the best for people on SW. I'm thinking maybe tandoori chicken as its oven cooked and doesn't have the sauce that most curries have.

I usually have a sheek kebab too, are they very high on syns?

Thank you

Josie

Chicken shaslik, salad, no rice

There used to be a section in one of the books in the welcome pack that had the lowest syn options for a lot of takeaways. I'll see if i can find mine but I think it may be lost in a cupboard!!

Honestly? Life is very short and very precious. A one off curry isn't going to harm you or your long term weight loss goal. Order whatever the hell you fancy and enjoy every bite. Then in the morning, right back on it.

Yes if I recall correctly, avoiding sauces is good so tandoori chicken with salad or plain boiled rice is ok on SW.

Going out for a curry is one of life's little pleasures. If you would enjoy a tandoori chicken, or a chicken shaslik then go for it. However if you think your eat it begrudgingly then order what you like... its 1 meal in 21, if you're on place the rest of the time it shouldn't have an effect on your losses.

Besides unless you're going somewhere particularly well known tandoori chicken and what not then they're generally just dry lumps of chicken.

I'd just get whatever curry's your favourite. Skip the naan. Don't drink m/any calories

Skip the bhajis and the naan at least

I was thinking this to be honest!! :) but just thought I'd see what the healthier options are. I blew out on Saturday as we went out for a meal so only lost half a pound this week - but I was still happy with that! I'm happy to have the healthier option as I did indulge on Saturday x

I used to go for a starter sized portion of dhal plus boiled rice.

Above message was in reply to carlyclock - just getting the hang of mumsnet so not sure how to reply to a particular comment!

Thank you all - I might get the tandoori chicken as I do like tandoori dishes, and have a sheek kebab to start. Maybe some pickles and poppadoms too :)

Looking forward to it ...x

Id get the curry you fancy and just not eat naan or rice. No point getting something more shit and then bulking it out with filler.

You might as well just have whatever you want, skip the starter, just have one poppadom. This is a lifelong change in eating habits, not a crash diet, and what's the point of life if we have to give up the most delicious curry.

Here's the wee bit from the book.
Chicken dhansak is my favourite and not to high subs wise. That plus pilau rice is your syns for the day but I'd also want naan and poppadoms so I'd share a rice and eat the extra bits and just be good/eat minimal syns for the rest of the week.

I always get chicken tikka, no sauce and pilau rice. I have about a third of a plain naan too. I have this pretty much every Friday, it’s my treat and I still lose weight. I think if you have a couple of cheat meals a week it’s fine so long as your 90% on it.
