Anyone being bad over Christmas?

I'm not even going to pretend - I have been fully off plan this week. And probably will be the same next week. I'm planning on skipping group next week at least just so I'm not worrying or deflated by the inevitable gain. Is anyone else being synful over Christmas or are you staying on plan? Part of me feels bad because I've done so well (1 stone 6lbs off since summer yay!) but if you can't go rouge at Christmas when can you? Plus I love pigs in blankets and booze!

I’m planning on being good this year.

Hoping for 2 1/2lbs off for my 2 stone award on Monday.

I’ve been under such stress and sadness for 4 weeks that food is not giving me pleasure so I’m just eating to sustain myself. It’s very unusual for me to be like this so I’m trying to lose weight while I can.

"being good" and "being bad" are really unhelpful ways to look at your eating.

You are choosing to eat and enjoy or not. It's not being bad. You are free to enjoy the food without guilt and negative thoughts about yourself.

@WeirdPookah when you're on the slimming world plan there are foods that you have to moderate in order to lose weight so by 'being bad' I'm talking about not moderating and binging a bit. You might not think it's a helpful way to look at it but when you're on a diet you're either sticking to it or you're not lol. So that's what I was asking...

The problem with going rogue for 2 weeks is that it will be hard to get back into the SW mindset and you may end up regaining a fair bit of the 20lb you have lost.

After a 9.5lb gain this week, I'm needing to lose and not gain more 🙈

It's difficult isn't it!

I've lost 17lb and I feel so much better for it. But I'm already going off plan with the odd Xmas choc, mince pie and other things. Plus I'm hormonal so that doesn't help.

I'm really going to try and stay on plan, apart from Christmas day. Love my Christmas dinner.

Be great to check in for support over the next week!

I have to look at the long term picture
I’ve lost 5.5 stone on SW and 2 before that
Recently gained about 10lb - my Dad died in October and I’ve been drinking too much
Recently loads of Xmas parties, meals out etc
I try to eat healthy in between these events and aiming to maintain or small gain over Xmas

Lost 1.5 last week
This week I’m expecting a small gain
Just had takeaway and am on the gin
Also had 2 Xmas dos

I have no idea what I've gained this week. But after three takeaways, crisps, booze, two Christmas meals out I think it's safe to assume that it will be quite significant! I'm dreading going back after Christmas and facing the music but the way I see it I've lost before so hopefully I can lose again! It's hard on SW because once you're in the mindset you see the syns in everything. Even when I'm giving myself a week or so off I still think about syn value. Wish I could just switch off from it.

I think this is why diets don't work. You're talking in terms of 'off plan' and 'on plan'. Any weight loss will only be long term if you live your life on plan. I'm talking as someone who lost & regained almost 9 stone with SW. I've lost 7 of those regained stones but not with SW.

@TheSquitz on the whole I do see SW as a lifestyle choice. I'm still able to eat a lot of the things I like, just wish slight adjustments - ie a curry main with yoghurt rather than cream and things like that.

Obviously there are things that are moderated such as cheese and chocolate that I just want to enjoy more of at Christmas. So yeah I suppose I am going off plan for a week or two but if I can get back on it I know I can continue with the SW lifestyle and keep losing. Out of interest how come you put it back on? Did you just drop the plan altogether?

I am trying to be moderate and enjoy things I want to enjoy but be mindful and honest of syns etc. I’ll be weighing in tomorrow and the following week even if a gain as this will help me in the long term. I’ve lost 3stone since the summer and I am really enjoying the health benefits of this so don’t want to throw it all away now. However it’s worth keeping a balanced view and remembering that almost everyone including very slim/healthy people overindulge more at this time of year but then get back to their healthy habits straight away.

Neither good nor bad, I'm just doing what I do. It's not a healthy way to look at your diet.

Disillusioneddaisy I maintained the weight loss for a couple of years but old habits crept back and I just lost the plot. It's like there's a switch in my head and when it flicks, it's like I have no control.

@TheSquitz I'm the same tbh. It's like if I go off plan I don't moderate at all. I see some people balancing quite well by having the odd treat but still mostly sticking to the basic principles. With me once I'm off plan I'm completely off plan and eat everything in sight. I know it will catch up with me I just hope I can get back on it in the new year
