Reducing portion sizes

Can anyone here help? Made the mistake of posting on weight loss and got a load of shit back which made me feel so awful I fell off the wagon this morning after 3 weeks following sw and working hard.
I only posted to ask how others coped with reducing portion sizes as I know 100% this is a big problem for me. I eat the same size meal as 16st boyfriend.
I have been trying to reduce my potion sizes but have been left so hungry it only took people being horrible to me to make me go back to an old habit.
So. Since this is sw and I hope I won't get a load of stuck up idiots... how long will it last feeling so hungry and unfulfilled? I have only reduced them very slightly so far, and have a long way to go to get near to what normal people eat. I need to know it gets better!

Are you following the SW plan?
If so then fill up on free foods, don't worry about portion sizes of these if the weight is coming off, just keep the Syns to under 15. I find by adding extra greens to my plate (I try to do half of it) I fill up and lose more readily, so perhaps same size meal, just different proportions of each food on it. I find that if I try and cut portions so I am hungry, I cave in, so try and stick to meal times, no snacking but good size portions. Good Luck!

I used to follow SW but have recently become more aware of how to lose weight. I always did lose weight on slimming world but could never keep it off and always ended up back at the same weight.
Losing weight is all about calories in vs. calories out. That's why I believe it is utter rubbish to think it's "free" to eat a massive plate of pasta or potatoes just because they don't count. If you counted the calories it would be horrifying.
To feel full you need to fill your plate up with a complete balance of protein, carbs and veg. Obviously more veg than carbs. If you are following SW then I believe they like you to try and fill half your plate with 'speed food' and they say you can have as much of that as you like. Don't be over generous with "free" food that could still be really high in calories.

I’ve lost a stone on SW and didn’t reduce my portion sizes at all. I eat large portions of chicken and salmon, some potatoes or rice, and fill up half my plate with vegetables or salad. You shouldn’t be going hungry. What’s a typical meal that you’re eating on SW?

When I was dieting I did slim fast, that worked for me but then once I got to my weight I would buy the m&s fuller longer meals because they are balanced and were a good idea of a healthy portion. Fill the majority of your meal with low carb veg and salad. Reduce white bread intake or swap to Danish bread. Drink plenty of water. Do it bit by bit if it's too much all at once.

I find ensuring a decent amount of protein and speed foods then reducing my carb amount really helps.

I then drink about 700mls of fluid if I feel hungry after 30 minutes.

2 examples. One is quorn low fat sausage with mash (egg, not butter and milk). Synned gravy plus veg
The other is quorn fajhita with peppers and mushrooms, plus the rest you can see.

I’ve never eaten quorn, so don’t know how filling it is, but those meals look ok. How about having a vegetable soup as a starter? Or having more filling snacks during the day so that you’re not starving at meal times. Maybe you can snack on hard boiled eggs, cold meats etc.

They look ok to me. I started using a smaller plate and gradually reducing portion, especially the carbs and increasing speed. It's amazing what a difference one less sausage or a few less potatoes can make in the long run. Your appetite will decrease too. Also drink a pint of water pre meal to fill you up. Best of luck with your journey

Some good ideas here.Definitely fill up on protein and fruit and veg .I find I lose more if I don’t eat as many carbs. However, today I had a baked potato for my lunch and still don’t feel hungry...so balancing feeling full ( but not full to bursting) and not snacking seems to be working today!

I did the sw diet n lost 15lbs. Took me about 4 months to be fair but I didn't do it a good third of the time. Got down to 8 stoneish. With bugger all exercise, just the diet change.

I say DONT reduce portion sizes. Because when you do that, you end hungry and falling off the wagon by snacking. The key is planning. Plan your days meals a day or two in advance.

I also had cucumber with everything xD and grapes as a snack.

You can eat us much wholegrain rice ect as you like to fill you up. They say the same for WG pasta too but I found that made me retain weight. Maybe depends on the individual there. But yeah, veg n some fruit n rice should become your new best pall. Don't stinge on the wholegrain carbs. Hunger is your enemy.

Pinkbonbon ...well done..15lbs..I would love that ( by Xmas 🤣🤣🤣).Although I wouldn’t say skimp on portion sizes, I would say only eat until u are comfortable and only eat when you are hungry. The reason I say this is I think that as soon as you go off plan the weight piles on possibly because your stomach is expecting lots of food, It’s my understanding that SW advocates eating food that fills you up quicker per calorie ( ?.??) so you don’t actually eat as many calories , someone correct me if I am wrong?Good luck all xxx

Drink plenty of water every day, especially a pint before meals. Fill up on speed food. Make sure at least 1/3 of your plate is speed food (1/2 is better). Don’t go hungry else you’ll crave naughty food! And make sure you plan. If you’re still hungry after a meal wait for 20 mins and then eat some fruit if you’re still hungry.

Also, use your syns but stay below the 15 syns per day. If you don’t use them you may feel more restricted.
