Hi. I have struggled with my weight all my life and now DS age 11 is too. I have been to SW before and I know I lose weight with it as long as I stick to the plan.

DS is getting called names at school and has asked me to help him lose weight. We have tried doing healthy eating ourselves but I am not great it tbh.

I am considering SW for both of us but wondered if anyone has any experience of what it involves for children and if it was a positive experience. ..and if it works for kids?

THANKS

The SW plan is just healthy eating for all the family, and is ideal for a hungry growing lad, as it's a generous plan.
I've known a few children and teenagers over the years who've done well on SW, and responded to the group's welcome and praise.
I think their plan is a bit different, and of course allowance is made for them still growing.
You could look up your nearest group on the SW website, and get in touch with the Consultant.

Thanks. I have contacted a SW consultant and we are both going to join a group next week.

That's great, OP.
You are changing your DS's life from that first step.

Several young people have joined my SW group and done really well. Good luck.

My friends DD did SW as a teenager. Is was recommended by her doctor and she got vouchers to cover the cost of some sessions. She had a great result and kept the weight off

Thank you everyone. We are going tomorrow. Hopefully this will be a new healthy start for both of us.

How did you get on? Both my children are overweight Blush but neither are very keen to address it and I worry about tipping them into an eating disorder by discussing it too much with them.

The free to go plan isn't so much about dieting but making healthy swaps, so Wholemeal bread instead of white etc. They don't count syns it healthy extras. My friend's son has lost over 3st and looks amazing. He's now a target member along with his mum.

I did slimming world as a teenager..quite a while ago..2004..but I loved it, I lost 2 stone in about 5 months and enjoyed learning to cook different things. Really feel like it set me up for life in terms of being able to cook and plan meals. Doesn't feel like a diet either, not faddy (if you do it right) which I think is important for children as they are still forming relationships with food/body image.

My son is overweight and is doing it by default with me as he eats what I eat - he calls the meals the healthy chapter and I hope the healthier swaps eg fry light for oil sw fish n chips instead of our chip shop fish n chips help him x
