How small is small? Every little counts

A loss is a loss and a step in the right direction. You need to see this as a lifestyle change, not a quick fix. Slow and steady wins the race Wink.
Keep up the good work.

Don't be disheartened: some people have a big loss the first week and some don't.
I think it's sometimes due to overindulgence before the joining day weigh-in ( might as well be hung for a sheep as a lamb sort of mentality!), and this catches up.
Keep to the plan, and I bet you will see a good loss at your next weigh-in.
Keep us posted, as I like being told I am right.

I stayed the same - gutted. I didn't cheat - recorded everything but have gone wrong somewhere - too much pasta and dairy maybe.

I was really disheartened following slimming world. Half off, half on, stay the same then I really looked at what I was eating and basically I was eating way to much. I know it works but I have to weigh my pasta and potatoes etc. Ultimately being in a calorie deficit is what creates weight loss.

I lost 2lbs on my first week, and most weeks it was half a pound to a pound. It took me two years to lose three stones (was a very steady loss). But I have maintained my weight loss for three years.

I think sometimes that first week can make a difference on how overweight you are to start with, from what I saw in group the people with more to lose generally had bigger loses in the first week.

I've just joined (day 3)!

I don't know what you were told when you signed up but I was told average weight loss in the first week is 5lbs. This seems completely nutso to me. You should be looking for 1-2lbs a week.

I have done LOADS of diets (yay me) and if you have dramatic weight loss in the first week you'll either plateau or put some of it back on in the next week or two.

2lbs is great! well done. Just keep it up xxx

My partner gained half a pound in his first week.

He's now lost over 4 stone.

I have just joined (again) and am hoping for a 2lb loss in my first week. How did you get on in week 2?

I lost 2.5lbs the first week and was completely gutted. However I'm now in a place where I've decided as long as the scales go down each week, I don't care what the loss is.

half a pound first week, one pound second week lol

First week though I hadn't started properly until 3 days after weigh in as I had lots of nights out planned.

2nd week I was due on so putting it down to that.

I'm back for the 3rd time and every time I register they go on about the first weeks loss. It irritates the crap out of me. I have never had a big loss, I am firmly a 1 or 2 lbs girl. I hate the pressure to lose 8lbs in week one as it totally takes pleasure away from the 1/2lbs loss. And I always have to grit my teeth to stop myself pointing out that NOBODY loses 10lbs of FAT in one week unless they are morbidly obese. It's a lot of water that goes.

Hi all newbie here,

I started SlimmingWorld on 24/7/19. I will admit to weighing 19st 2 on join day!

I am now 5 weigh ins in and I’ve lost 17lb. I put this down to having LOTS to loose. I have majorly upped my fluid intake so i will also have lost a lot of the water I have retained. I have cut out 2 sugars in my tea opting for sweetener or plain, and generally cut the crap and eat loads more speed food.

I have in the past had a very unhealthy relationship with food hence ending up at 19st. So I’m trying not to fixate on the numbers more on how I feel in myself.

Please do not get disheartened. We are all in this together x

I only lost 1.5lbs on my first week, a lot of people say the larger you are the more likely you will have a massive loss in the beginning. 1-2lbs a week is a safe loss! Keep going! In total I've now lost 2st 8.5 lbs (and still going) - these losses seem small but they really add up. It can be especially frustrating when you've done it all week and maintained or gained, but bodies are all different and we can't compare our losses to others as we all have different factors affecting us. Good luck x

@Mrscsince06 that's fantastic. Don't ever think it's because you have lots to loose. It's hard for everyone. You have made changes to make that happen. Don't ever think that as less.

It's amazing. Keep going SmileSmileSmile

I am shitting a brick. Joined last week at 18.95stone. I have lost about 2 stones in the last 18 months on my own. Have followed the plan religiously this week and know I will be disappointed if I haven't lost at weigh in tonight. Pre plan our diet was not too bad but I do enjoy a glass or four and then crisps and chocolate to follow. I do hope I've lost ....I know it's only one week but.......! Keep everything crossed!

Well done Original! I think there is too much pressure subconsciously on the first weight loss being big. A lady who recently joined the group I go to was disappointed with her 4lb loss in the first week because she had lost more when she’d started in the past! That’s madness as 4lb is an amazing loss!! Week 1 I lost 6lb and week 2 lost 1lb and I was thrilled with both as a cumulative loss. I’ve been doing this about 2 months now and most weeks loss is around 2lb and I have a lot to lose so I am happy with this as I need to play the long game this time!!

Soulstirring · 22/09/2019 18:10

I echo the time of the month question? I have been so good also and it’s my first week. I’ve lost 2lb too then realised I completely lost track of the week and it’s my af due tm. I’m hoping and praying next week will be bigger...I’ve made some massive changes and would like to be rewarded! Grin

Good luck OP, keep at it!

I lost 3.5lbs in my first week but was also shocked by the idea that the first week could be 6+lbs. I've always been led to believe that 1 to 2lbs a week is safest!
