Slimming World

Just joined - do I have to have speed foods with breakfast?

I've just signed up to Slimming World - online only as I don't fancy the classes. I think I understand the concept behind it all, but I'm wondering if it matters if I have the same breakfast and lunch everyday? I do better sticking to the same thing, especially Mon-Fri when I'm working.

I'd also really like to stick to my current breakfast which I love and I know it keeps me going all morning, the only thing is there is no speed food involved - I like to have hot porridge (made with water) topped with banana and almond butter. I can't think of any speed food I'd like to add, I've tried having berries instead of banana but I just don't enjoy it, I've tried overnight oats too but I just like my banana and almond butter! I've added it up and it would involve my Healthy Extra B and 4 syns.

The lunch I will probably have most days is jacket potatoes with tuna and salad on the side so I think I'm ok with speed food for this. Dinner I will probably choose from the recipes on the site so I assume these will already have the correct amount of speed food?

The 1/3rd speed food is meant to replace one third of the rest of your plate. But if I don't have speed foods on my breakfast I'd probably have an apple and satsuma to snack on.

I never have speed food for breakfast but do with my other two meals and snacks!

That sounds ok then, I’m not big into fruit but I’ll probably snack on berries or veg later in the day, thanks. I guess I’ll soon find out if it works!

Same, I tend to bulk up the veg or salad with lunch/dinner rather than eat lots of fruit. I've lost over 4 1/2 stone so far so hope it works for you!

I never have speed foods with brekkie. Just with other meals and snacks. The recipes on the website will tell you to serve with your chosen speed foods so it's something you'll have to add in yourself!!
Good luck!!

I don’t either, but I changed my snacks for the morning to speed food (it used to be chocolate rice cakes and popcorn type stuff), so I reckon that’s the right idea.

You don't need to have speed foods with your porridge.

I might be wrong, but ism’t One point of the speed foods to stop you going OTT on the free carbs like pasta? So a third of your palate is taken up with them and you eat less “unlimited”? Therefore if your breakfast doesn’t have too much unlimited food in it (because your oats are a weighed HExB and presumably you don’t have more than one banana) then the speed food doesn’t matter so much? That’s just my take on it. I am also having porridge and banana for breakfast but also new to this and an online member so no idea if that’s OK.

Sorry for typos- plate not palate Smile

I wouldn't have a banana on its own asits a free fruit not a speed fruit. Grated apple and chopped plums is my favourite combination.

Oh God I have a lot to learn- a banana on its own is not OK? Why’s that?

It is ok but you are encouraged to eat lots of speed fruits and veg to fill yourself up.
