Riddle me this ...

Hey all,

Back on slimming world today 🙄

So...

I've had my 15 syns and fancy something sweet while I watch tv tonight with dh and he eats a big pack of wispa bites ☹️

If I have a light hot choc then I go over my syns by 2- (40 calories)

Or I could have a muller light and banana for free - (160-200 calories)

As far as making the right choices etc surely the hot chocolate is better?? Right?

Thanks xxx

Well for the plan the banana and yogurt is best.
But the plan isn't based on calorie counting so if your calorie counting as-well then yeh the hot chocolate

The way I see the plan is that it's tricking you into a low calorie diet -limited bread / cheese extra with the healthy A's b's and then the suns are a calorie controlled extra . Surely with any diet less calories is better ? I think this time around I'm going to make choices that result in less calories

Go for it just don't pretend you're doing SW you're doing your own thing

My SW lady said it was based on calories but I agree, I never really I understood how it worked but if I stuck to it religiously I did lose weight. The speed foods really helped me and I could see the difference in weekly weight loss if I increased speed!

I agree with the OP if I'm honest. I've done SW and WW and the only thing I can stick to (and that makes sense to me) is calories counting. I absolutely understand the principles of SW and WW and both have brilliant positives, but when all is said and some weight loss boils down to burning more calories than you put in. So for me watching calories makes the most sense.

Yes bing 😀

I am following slimming world just not overdosing on extra 'free' calories and making sensible choices.

I've done both WW and SW too, WW I lots loads with the point counting plan but got fed up with having to convert everything into points. SW I lost about 7 lbs then bugger all, it's not strict enough for me, they shouldn't tell people with eating disorders that you can eat a whole plate of pasta as long as you have a 1/3 of a plate of salad and you'll still lose weight ... I'll just get a bigger plate when I'm on a binge.

The main problem with both plans now is I simply don't care enough about somebody else's opinion on my weight loss to pay them £5 a week to weigh me and get a round of applause.

I'm now counting calories using My Fitness Pal for free and spending the £5 a week on swim sessions.

And do you know that SW and muller light have an economic partnership which is why they promote them so heavily? There are loto of other free yoghurts you can have. I thought it was very dishonest of the not to disclose this and had to ask a few times very directly before I got an answer. They also have an agreement with frylite. That stuff is full of additives and you're far better off with a squirt of olive oil.

That's very interesting @pleasegotowork - they do plug them heavily don't they?

They're very sweet arnt they !

I like the light and free yoghurts and Aldi do nice fruit layered ones that are free.

There are questionable choices on sw that come up like avocado being higher in syns than beer and then the age old mashed banana debate 😖 I do not syn mashed banana -it's apparently about satiety ? Like you could eat so many more mashed a whole banana satisfies you more 💁‍♀️

Badgers bum - what's your calorie limit if you don't mind me asking x

You put all your statistics in to MFP so I told them I'm bloody huge and hardly move during the day but want to lose a lot. It gave me a limit of 1390 a day, but I try to stick to about 1200 to allow for days when I either can't stick to it, or am somewhere where it's impossible (thinking about friend's upcoming wedding). I don't bother putting the exercise bit in because I'd be tempted to eat the extra calories it gives you.

I've had very few muller light yoghurts since I rejoined 18 months ago. They're too runny. I tend to go for thicker ones as they don't trigger my reflux.

If I'm looking for something sweet, quark and frozen fruit does it for me.

I now try to use my syns in meals as I'm at target.

I've said this before on another thread (I think) and it's a prime example of how fucking obsessed and delusional the group leaders are.....

I've been very ill for the past 4 weeks (severe diarrhoea etc) getting lots of tests etc and as a result of the diarrhoea I lost a stone and a half in 3 weeks. I'd not long started SW before this started. Obviously I'd not been back so my leader texted me to ask where I'd been. I explained all this to her. Her response? Oh I can't wait to see you back at group to give you your first stone award!

I mean, really? 🤨

I lost about a stone on SW, I stopped using olive oil and used frylite instead which is just vile. Stopped having nuts and avocado as the syns were so high and it totally ballsed up my cholesterol, they said my bad cholesterol was ok but I had virtually no good cholesterol so I binned off SW as I felt I got no support from the leader.

I was in the middle of a plan which was annoying but I joined a gym for the money I saved and track calories instead.

@infinitesheldon

No, not bullshit. My SW leader confrmed it- eventually. This was after I had synned the Aldi yoghurts and found them syn free. Muller light have gelatine so it made me look for alternatives. When I asked my SW leader if I could substitute the aldI ones I was told they 'Couldn't guarantee the weight loss if not using muller light.'

This made me look at SW through very sceptical eyes from then on.

See my consultant is veggie and doesn't promote muller lights. He is really creative with food and is always encouraging us to try new things from scratch.

Im not sure what the point would be in following SW and paying the money just to calorie count? I do it because I cant be bothered to weigh everything. If you are weighing everything anyway, why bother with SW? Especially since you don't seem to like the programme anyway. Just type everything into my fitness pal or join weight watchers. I don't eat Muller lIghts because they're not compulsory, but I would say a light hot chocolate wouldn't fill you up as much as a yoghurt and a banana. I would say that SW works better for people with a lot to lose. If you are used to eating a huge amount of food, maybe a banana and a yoghurt is a better choice than a watery hot chocolate that will maybe leave that person still hungry, so they would be more likely to then go for the unhealthy foods, or have a muller on top. Most diets/ eating plans will work if you stick to them. The key is to find one that you are most likely to stick to long term. If you're finding fault with SW even when you are on it, you are not going to stick to it so its pointless doing it. Ditto low carb, ditto My fitness pal and all the rest.
