Slimming World

Tell me about the 5:2 - slimming world is not working for me

Hello,

I joined slimming world five weeks ago and despite sticking to the plan and upping exercise I have only lost 5lbs!!

I’m miserable and starting to lost motivivation after my paltry 1/2lb loss tonight.

I am also getting fed up of having to spend two hours of my Wednesday in a meeting hearing about others weight loss, in the vain hope that I might get some hints and tips.

I’m loving that we are now actively eating a lot healthier but am missing nuts, avocados, cheese etc.

I’m not sure if this is my age (43 1/2) but usually after five weeks of dieting and regular exercise I have lost well over a stone.

I’m doing variations of Davina’s fit in seven (at least 35 minutes with fat burning every other day) and although clothes seem loser I was hoping for more results from slimming world.

In addition the feedback on my food charts has been questionable - worried I am not eating enough and more variation.

I eat until I am full and whilst I know variety is good at times for ease (full time working mum, husband who likes meat, limited time for menu planning etc etc) I revert to a quick salad and or steamed brocolli and carrots.

I do have an office job but walk for at least 20 ish minutes a day (with the Davina dvd every other day).

My start weight was 10st 8lbs and I am now 10st 2.5lbs.

I don’t like sweetners so if I have fancied something sweet I have not denied myself but have stayed within the 15 syns mainly - although I had my biggest weight lost in two separate weeks where I had gone over syns two days.

Basically I have upped fruit, veg, cooking from scratch (ie no ready meals, danish for breakfast, no bread, no lurpak etc etc) I have however swapped to slimline tonic for gin (syned).

I sound like a right cow and am frustrated but the leader actually looks like she could lose a few pounds and I am getting fed up taking advice from them tbh.

Any thoughts (apart from me being a bitch about the leader?)

Thanks :)

Hi Selena. I’m the same age and similar weight. It’s just really difficult to shift the weight after 40 I think. Slimming World is good for slow weight loss. I think it’s only people who are very overweight to start with who manage the huge weekly losses on it. I think you need to be less ambitious and be happy with the 5lb to be honest! Well done!

Thanks Equal :)

I’ve got 6 weeks until my hols so will give it my all. Really trying not to focus on this is how weight loss is coming up to mid 40s!!!

Thanks and good luck to you :)

Twinkle - see if I could do 2lbs a week that would be another 12lbs and would take me to target.

What do you eat?? Are you full time working mum as I think this is a barrier for me with all the planning and thinking about how I’m going to get my speed foods in...

Hi All. Yes Twinkle some tips would be great as I am going to start SW again after my summer holiday. I work FT too and have busy schedule of kids clubs too. Quick healthy meal suggestions would be great.

It can be really frustrating hearing the seemingly endless tales of huge losses in a short space of time when you feel like you're not quite keeping up but actually it all adds up and we tend to forget that our bodies process foods differently so no to people will lose at the same rate!

I've lost 4st 9lbs in 58 weeks and felt like it just wasn't shifting then something clicked and it started to shift more consistently although I can't pin point what actually changed!

It will happen if you stick with it, I regularly have nuts (hexB), cheese (hexA) and avocado (10g = just under 1syn) and rarely eat "low fat/fat free" products.

I should also add I'm a student working 2 jobs with 2 kids and a house to run too so it can be done!

A standard day would be something like;
Porridge (B), chopped pear and mixed spice
Satsuma
Ham and egg salad, 15g salad cream (3)
Alpen light/hifi (3)
Macaroni cheese (hexA+2.5), beetroot, tomato
Natural yogurt & blueberries

I'm the same age as you and am a terrible slow loser. I've been slimmer of the week at total of once, and I've been doing it for 9 months! It's very disheartening when others lose lb's and lb's. I tried 5:2 and didn't lose any weight because I think I ate too much on the 5 days 😁 I reached a plateau with SW so I'm going to try sp for a week to see how I go. On the plus side, I have lost 1 1/2 stone, may have lost slowly but I've stuck to it for longer than any other diet. I also haven't put the weight back on, which I did after eating about one mouthful of pasta when I was doing low carb! Maybe try 5:2 but do SW on the 5 days instead of mainlining pizza on the non fast days like I did!

What’s wrong with the 5lbs loss ? It’s still a good amount of loss. Not everyone’s bodies work the same anyway. If you
Are loosing then it’s working. There is no magic solution for weight loss. You’re following the diet well and exercising AND you’ve lost weight. Seems like a good result to me. Don’t give up.
