Slimming World

Can we discuss the Iceland ready meals?

So, used my free slimming world meal voucher I received in group on Saturday and got myself one. The pasta/ham/pea one. Its not my first meal, I can’t remember which others I’ve had but I don’t think I’m overly sold on them.

I had mine for dinner tonight because I couldn’t be bothered to cook and wanted a hot meal quickly!!!

Is there any ‘nice’ ones?!
Ones you would recommend?
I like having at least one in so I know there’s is a hot meal if I need one

The meatballs one is quite nice but never try the thai green curry. I love thai curry but it tastes nothing like and is absolutely rank, I threw it away after a mouthful.

I never found a nice one!! They are horrible and watery - the noodles one was awful!

I wanted a thick sauce to the pasta, was full of water Sad

ALDI sell similar meals I think, cheaper and supposed to be nicer according to my neighbour

I've had the sweet and sour which was ok. I've had a curry, I think it was the chicken saag which was quite nice.

I surveyed my group on FB, to find out which one is best so I could use my voucher wisely.

Top pick was the chicken and chorizo paella

I agree Chicken saag is ok, sweet potato curry is also ok and the veg biriani. The only meal I really like is the beef with veg crush it's my emergency lifesaver. I like the meatballs and I had the sausages in a casserole last week they were ok . I bloody love the noodle salad from the chilled section it's nice and spicy.

Yes the meatballs and burgers are ok. I've tried the Farfalle and the risotto. Nothing to write home about. I got a veg biriyani with my free voucher but haven't tried it yet. I like that they put the recipes on the back.

I’ve only tried the chicken dishes as that’s the only ‘proper’ meat I eat. And they’re all bloody awful!! The chicken is always chewy and dry. The tikka sauce is amazing if you can get it (my local Iceland doesn’t stock it so have a 1 hour round trip to a store that does so I can stock up).

Their burgers are amazing though. Sausages are ok if you use them in a casserole.

I've only tried the vegetarian ones... the biryani is quite nice, and I'll second the tikka masala sauce.

The veg burgers were good, but they're gone Sad

Most of the meals have peppers in making it hard for me to eat as peppers trigger my reflux.

The pasta one you got doesn’t get good reviews from many people.

The paella tasted funny but when I made it at home it was lovely x

I've yet to find a nice ready meal anywhere. Even the full-fat versions of something.

I still haven’t used my voucher, and going by this thread I don’t think that’s going to change! I’ve never been one for buying ready meals for all the reasons everyone’s given in this thread, but I did hope there might be something in this range which would be a good standby

They are disgusting.in fact I don't know how they make them taste so bad!
They are either very vinegary, full of water or very very spicy. Even if I had 10 free vouchers I wouldn't use them!
I did WW years ago and used to keep a few ww meals for emergencies and they were much more edible Confused

Utterly vile

Sw know this which is why they are cross with Aldi for bringing out similar meals which are tasty.

I found the tikka masala ok and good for emergencies or when family decide to get an Indian

I had an Aldi one tonight, meatballs and pasta. Wasn't bad
Had a chow mein one too, bland but huge portion/volume so decent if you're really hungry. Chucked some chilli flakes on it!

homemade chips, Quorn/linda mcartney sausages (1/2 syn each) and mushy peas.

Jacket potato, salad and beans :)

I find the meals are not too watery if you stir them very very well in between and stie well at the end and leave the lid off for a minute before you eat. However the mushroom farfelle even doing this was not impressive and tastes sour. I have also done the aldi meals which are much tastier but they made me very windy and can't be sure of they are free yet. Even with this I've been on diet 8 days and lost 4 pounds
