I don't feel ill.
I am concerned that perhaps I am not seeing what she sees.
So here is a picture.
I know I am 2 stone over where I am comfortable and 3 from ideal.
But do I really look like I am about to die or something?
Be brutal I can take it.

Not a Heath care professional so I have no medical training but you look a bit heavy-but not anything as bad as your mum thinks
Do you want to do anything about it?

You look like me! Overweight but not terribly so, certainly not morbidly obese! What does your mother say about your weight? What does she think is going to happen?

You have a lovely figure, you go in and out in all the right places. And you certainly don't look like you are going to die. However, the extra weight is probably putting a strain on your heart and joints so it would make sense that your mum is stressing about it xx

Nothing brutal from me but my weight story started like yours with a reasonable amount of weight to lose that has now turned into a nightmarish amount to drop.

I have PCOS which could have been caused by my weight gain or could have caused it but either way I'm suffering now, health wise, and I struggle to lose anything, even with a lot of exercise and eating sensibly.

If you can get motivated and lose it while your metabolism is working well, I wholeheartedly encourage you to do so.

I do have a small frame. At 18 I was v happily 7.5 stone. Very much not that now but at 47 it was a very very long time ago. Was. Happy at 11 stone. Am gently aiming to get there but not in a panic until mum said I just don't see how horrific it is.

No one should be diagnosing over the internet!!

Go and see your doctor and get all your vitals taken and go from there.

I don't know how your mum thought she was helping?!

I think you (or your mum!) have to clarify that statement a bit: Going to die because of your weight.
Going to die when?
Of what?
Confused

Anyway, yes, you are overweight - you don't need us to tell you that Thanks

There is an increased risk of death from being overweight, there is no denying it, but that is more related to increased risk of diabetes, heart disease, high blood pressure, some cancers (breast Ca for instance) etc due to increased body fat percentage.
We now know that fat is hormonally and metabolically active and not just extra bulk or weight.

What has prompted your mum's remark?
is she a very different body shape from you? - I am asking because mine is and what is slim for her is skinny for me Grin

What's your BMI? Have you had your blood pressure/cholesterol checked?

No one can work those things out from a picture.

CheekyChunkyChicken · 01/02/2017 22:25

I have annual blood tests due to potential inherited problems. Each time they come back very much on the healthy end of normal.
I have low blood pressure and generally a healthy lifestyle just not over excited by exercise or lowering food intake to lose weight even though that is what I need to do 😊

And I agree, your mum's way of "helping" probably wasn't very helpful.

Are you doing slimming world at the moment? How's it going?

Did she think she was going to die when she was heavier?

That's another fab typo! I've just seen vegas spring rolls on another thread instead of vegetable.

You're about to tip into obese so it's really important to try and get your weight under control now before it starts to cause you the sorts of problems pacific linked to.

Ahh she's gone evangelical on you! You've got weight to lose but you're in no way in need of a crisis summit!! I think you need to decide for yourself what you want to achieve and how quickly, then take small, sensible steps that you can be consistent with. Flowers

Now if I could lose weight eating vegas spring rolls I may go for it!! 😀

You have a very similar figure to me OP. If that's the case I think my driver to lose weight is often my tummy but unfortunately or fortunately (not sure which) I carry the weight well, esp with clothes on so apart from my tummy I don't look overweight at all. So people are often surprised when I say I want to lose weight.

I tend to be most comfortable at the top half stone for my height. It's still hard to stay there but I seem to look best at that weight.

Was bmi 30 which is what worried me in the summer.
Hope to just keep plugging in same direction.
Not drinking alcohol or fizzy drinks.
Eating 7 portions of fruit or veg each day.
Walking 8,000 paces ( can't seem to fit in 10,000)

Well the one certainty in life is that one day we will all die.... but the reality is that we will each spend less years in miserable incapacity if we can stay as fit and healthy as possible into middle and old age. Start a walking program, get fit that way, trim back on unhealthy food to loose weight. But slow and steady loss is just as good as quick and brutal and will probably last for longer. Small changes Smile

Puppy mouse this is part of it! It was why I was worried that I just was being blind to what mum can see.

Anyway have to go to bed. Thanks all.

There is more and more evidence that weight is not as significant for health that waist circumference.
Ditch the scales, and invest in a tape measure!
