Slimming World

Is this unrealistic for SW?

Hi :)
I'm new to this forum, and relatively new to slimming world.

I joined on Wednesday (18/1/17) and during my first meeting my consultant said she wanted me to lose 4lbs this week (first week).

I've been struggling with the whole concept of SW, and I'm really unsure how I'm supposed to lose weight with so many food options open to me. Although I am now eating a LOT more fruit and veg, I feel as though I am eating MORE than before I started SW (including more carbs & 'sugary' things like mullerlight yogurts) etc.

I only have 1 and 1/2 stone to lose and I feel as though 4lbs is a lot to lose in one week? I actually feel a bit pressured. As I haven't felt hungry at ALL since starting SW, I actually feel like I'm going to put on weight, not lose it!

I don't know if I'm just worrying. I'm definitely going to keep going to see what happens.. but I just feel really sceptical.

Is it really possible to lose 4lbs in my first week, when I have such little to lose overall? Or is this setting me up for a fall.. as if I lose less than 4lbs now I'll feel as though I let the consultant (and myself) down.

I had about a stone and a half to lose and felt I was eating loads of things that wouldn't help me lose weight, like pasta. And guess what? I lost 4 1/2 lb in my first week!

I haven't lost as much in any week since but that's as much to do with going out a lot so not sticking to it 100%. But apart from over Christmas, I haven't put anything on ever in any of the weeks. So the overall trend is still down.

So it does work even though it seems it won't! See how you get on, but don't worry too much. And if it doesn't work for you this first week, your consultant should be able to help look into why it hasn't.

I lost 3lb my first week which I was happy with. My friends stated the same week and some lost 3.5lb, 4.5lb, and one 6lb. We're all different. As long as you stick to plan you will lose.

I didn't like the pressure last week for a mini target then saying 1lb was too low. But I'm happy with 1lb a week.

I'm surprised that your consultant have you a figure to lose.
Mine always asked what we would like to lose.
I lost 11lb in the first 2 weeks I went and like yourself was eating much more then I normally would.
Don't be disappointed if you don't make that 4lb go at your own pace.

Consultant should not be telling you how much you should loose in a week. Talk about unnecessary pressure.
Our consultant always asked what we wanted to aim for and would happily accept whatever we said.

must get my lardy arse back to see and shift this baby weight

You don't have to eat lots of carbs and muller lights, I don't. It's very easy when you first start Sw to think "oh that's free I can eat as much as I want" mullers still gave calaories so if you eat four a day it's not going to help your weight loss.
That said as long as all your meals have a third free on the plate and your snacks are mainly speed you can definitely lose 4lbs+in your first week.
As others have said though it's not your consultants job to decide.

Just ignore her. Concentrate on sticking to the plan. You don't need this pressure.

I only had 1 and a half stones to lose and last week (my first weigh in) I lost 7.5lbs!
I never felt like I ate more than usual but I never went hungry and used all of my syns.

No one is going to judge you though if you don't lose 4 lbs. if you feel like you are eating enough (or more than enough) and you lose even 1-2 lbs then it's working and you know you are on the right track.

Could she maybe have said you could lose 4lb?

My consultant said in the first week you usually see a weight loss of 4lbs. I think in one of the books it also says this. However she didn't say we had too.

I've done slimming world three times (top tip: don't stop going once you've hit target cos it just goes back on 🙄) but I've never lost 4lbs in my first week, usually 2/2.5lb

I'm thinking of taking the plunge and going to my first ever slimming world on Thursday, I'm a little nervous about what to do/expect! As a fellow newbie, any pointers to calm my nerves?

I hope she said you could lose 4lbs, not that you must Confused

But, yes it's not unrealistic on your first week. Although I stick at a lb or 2 as being target week on week.

It's possible to lose 4lb in one week, but consultant shouldn't be telling you what to lose. Don't put too much pressure on yourself.

Chanandler, the biggest thing is walking through the door for the first time. Once you've done that then you'll be fine!

Really surprised she'd say that to you, since I thought all the guidance out there about weight loss was that you should lose 1-2lbs a week. That being said I think a lot of people drop more in the first week, in part because of upping their water consumption.

I did it in 2015 and lost 5lb in my first week. Overall I lost 4 stone in that year but a year off and 2 stone back on so have started it again (although going it alone now). List 5.5lbs in my first week back.

I only lost 1.5lb in my first week (last week) and was slightly disappointed, but it spurred me on to eat smaller portions at mealtimes which I suspect was the problem. I'm now eating less and trying to have a speed based snack if I'm hungry (rather than carb based) so hoping for a bigger loss this week. Good luck!

I'm doing it online and my first week was up today; I lost 6lb Grin so definitely possible! Although I have way way more than 1.5 stone to lose so that might make a difference...

how did your first wi go?
I only started back Friday so my first wi is next week. I have 1 1/2 stone to lose too.when I went last year I was a stone heavier. I lost 2 lb in my first week, 3lb in my 2nd and 4lb in my 3rd. I was really suprised I was going up instead of coming down.
