How many syns do you generally use and what on? Do you find that you lose weight if you use a lot of syns?
I use mine on light mayo, balsamic glaze and rocky roads!

Jimijack- yeah- sauces are a difficult one. Quark doesn't always cut it

15 a week! I'm guessing that's a typo I've lost four stone kept it off for ten years and I have an average of ten to twelve a day with a few more at weekends. So I have my full 105 every week. SW recommends you don't go under five a day as you may feel deprived then it's a diet not an eating plan.

I mix mayo into Quark for cold sauces like Marie rose it's worth the syns. I make my own ketchup it keeps well and I can't eat Heinz any more it tastes too sweet and bland. Cooked sauces don't ever work with Quark for me they always splitSad

I use approx 5/6 per day to top up my milk allowance (it sounds vague as I don't measure, but know I'm probably having more than the healthy A allowance so it covers any extra cuppa's).

Other than that I don't spend my syns, which gives greater weight loss than the weeks when I've eaten 10/15 deliberately (used to have additional treats with my syns; now I snack on fruit, veg, s/w 'chips' etc if I need something sweet or tasty in the evening)

I personally believe eating fewer syns leads to greater weight loss; if you understand how the plan works it has to, by the laws of common sense. However if eating syns stops you blowing out completely then it's a useful thing to have, but maybe just have them when needed rather than a must have that needs to be factored in every day?

I get great weight losses when I cut syns out/down but I'm headfirst in the biscuit barrel the next week Grin so I'd rather have them spread out iykwim. I've been more or less at target for ten years and for me the control of having counted syns stops my old bad binge starve habits. No syns is the starve part so for me to break the cycle it's easier to break the starve bit I am also always going to crack and binge occasionally but it's far less if I follow SW the way it's meant to be done rather than my own version (which never worked pre SW so why would I keep doing it )

Infinitesheldon- would you mind sharing your ketchup recipe please?
I am going to try and have less than 5 a day from now on. I've given up alcohol and chocolate!

Less than five a day isn't SW Confused don't do it your losses will slow down.
I use garlic finely chopped onion and celery (leaves and middle stalks you don't need much) Worcester sauce, Tabasco carton of passata tinned tomatoes tomato puree sweetener and a very generous splash of red wine vinegar. I add chillies and celery salt. Season cook for forty minutes then blitz add more puree if it's not thickened enough. Then I put in clean small jam jars and put in the dish washer (I know it sounds mad but they definitely last longer if they've been through a wash). I label and date and they last month's in the fridge. The fresh sauce will last up to three weeks in the fridge. I worked out I was spending over thirty syns a month on ketchup (bottle of red wine) so it's a great saving for me. There's several on line recipes and one in the fakeaway book but I just chuck it all in now.

With light mayo I mix it with fat free fromage frais makes it go further. In coleslaw I mix mayo with cider vinegar makes a lighter lower syn dressing. I spend my syns on wotsits, wine, Jack daniels and mayo mainly. Lots of people who say they go low syn aren't weighing/measuring Hextras so they are actually having 5 to ten syns a day just don't realise it.

15 per day

Report
IhatchedaSnorlax · 08/01/2017 09:49

I try to stick to 10 per day to get maximum weight loss - if I have 15 per day then weight loss is less but any less than 10 & I feel deprived & start to crave stuff.

I have about 10 on a normal day, then a few more if I've gone out for lunch etc.

I use 12-15 a day. Usually 15. I use them on chocolate,butter,crisps.

I've lost 2 & a half stone since October. I don't think I would have stuck with it if I couldn't have a little bit of chocolate in the evening!

Report
WetNovemberDay · 09/01/2017 09:08

Probably the first half the year chocolate. So it would be a twirl and maybe a dollop of of salad cream/or gravy made from granuled (not together i might addGrin)
As time went on i needed more syns to make the every day meals a bit more interesting and take short cuts like using a jar of sauce some days (between family of 4/5) so i dropped a few chocolste syns and ate curlywurlys instead which gave me my chocolate hit.
Sometimes id drop the chocolate a few days a week for a night out so i could have a few glasses of wine.

OP, my SW Consultant has been talking in our group this morning about the importance of having at least 5 of our 15 syns a day: that is the SW plan- free foods, healthy extras and syns, and there's no need to change that.
She told us that the body ticks along on the free foods and healthy extras, then the syns boost the metabolism, like putting extra fuel on the fire.
Cutting down on your syns is unnecessary, and could slow down your weight loss.

I've been hanging around 10 syns a day. When I've had a craving for chocolate, I've had a rocky Rd or Freddo. Before, I use to buy a grab bag of buttons or packet of chocolate hob knobs. Also need light mayo in my life, just like balsamic glaze dressing.

15 a day. If I know I'm going out on the weekend or have a party etc then I'll try to stick to fewer than 10 Mon-Fri then have the extras saved on the weekend.

But I've massively fallen off the wagon and can't seem to get back on (too many birthdays and a holiday this month!).

Yeah, was losing around a pound a week average, when I was on plan. Lost 12lbs in around 12 weeks. I'm 5ft 7" and started at 11st 7lbs so didn't have much to lose compared to some I guess (aiming to lose a stone).
