Slimming World

Not losing and don't know why

Hi. I rejoined Slimming world 2 weeks ago. I've about 3.5 stones to lose which I've gained mostly after the birth of dc3 19 months ago. Prior to having her I lost 4 stone at SW and kept it off for years. I've been 100% on plan for two weeks and guess how much I've lost? Absolutely nothing. I know the plan works and I'm following it to the letter so why aren't I losing weight? Help! It is so difficult to keep motivated without seeing any results. I haven't even lost inches. Any ideas?

A few possibilities:

  1. Monthly cycle. This greatly effects my weight loss, and can sometimes effect me for 2 weeks depending on how the weigh ins correspond with my cycle.
  2. Are you drinking enough water? I lose more when I drink more water.
  3. Are you writing down everything you're eating? You may be missing some syns somewhere.

Hi. Thanks for replying. I don't have a monthly cycle as such, I've got an implant and don't have periods.

I've upped my water since rejoining, been drinking a litre of water a day plus tea made with healthy extra A milk.

I wish I had written everything down, I haven't but each day goes like this. Breakfast, vegetable omelette, lunch veg soup, fruit and yogurt or a SW meal and veg if I'm at home. Tea is spag bol or something along those lines, entirely syn free and I even have a load of veg with that to ensure I get my super free. I don't snack so no hidden syns, I always use them in the evening for a kit kat and options. I also have a Hifi bar at night too. My stomach is actually killing from all the veg, it's really set my ibs off.

I've noticed my hair is thinning slightly at the front and wondered if this might be a symptom of something.

Is thinning hair a sign of a thyroid problem? Maybe ask your doctor for a blood test.

You poor thing! I would say, whilst you're not breaking any SW rules, you are having a LOT of chocolate in the evenings! Maybe choose a kitkit OR an options OR a hifi bar?

I'll give that a go. Might have my B choice as bread with breakfast, see if that helps.

I've booked myself a Dr's appointment too, fortunately I have very thick hair so no one else would be aware but there's definitely less of it.

Are you breastfeeding or have you recently stopped? That can affect weight loss.

Are you constipated? It can be an issue when you start eating different food. Also look again at your plate. Is it definitely a 1/3 speed. Is your soup homemade?

Maybe swap the eggs at breakfast to something less binding like fruit and ff yoghurt or try your B choice for breakfast. Not everyone can have a full 15 syns a day and still lose.

Write everything down for a week. Look at your portion sizes too. I try and plate up my speed first so I genuinely replace 1/3 of my plate rather than having a normal portion plus speed.

Thanks Froubylou. Great advice. Not Bf for ages. Not bunged up but having to worst ibs attack I've had in ages. Soup is always home made. I'm going to start swapping brekky to over night oats with fruit, see if that helps.

Sorry to hear your ibs is flaring up. Has it been a massive change of diet or do you think it is one thing in particular that is triggering it?

Could you look through the list of b choices and chose nuts or stewedor dried fruit instead of cereal or bread? Maybe it's the fibre based cereal that is irrating your ibs. Also remember if you are suffering from the squits you will probably be retaining fluids.

I am sure you will lose. Write everything down and show it your consultant.

Alternatively join in on the sw support thread where a lot of successful and experienced swers hang out. I have learnt loads from them in the last few months and we are pretty friendly.

I gained weight on Slimming World, as it was just too much food for me. I did it for a month but put on around 4lb, as my "usual" diet involves eating less food than the SW plan IYSWIM.

The obvious answer is that your portions are too large and you can't get away with eating unlimited "free" food such as pasta. I can't either!

I'm not an IBS sufferer but I've heard you should avoid high Fodmap fruit and veg. There's a list of OK fruits and veg on this link and many others online. Might help with weightloss if u get IBS under control.

I can understand your concern regarding weight loss. I read a survey about weight loss, which tells about wonder body challenge. The wonder body challenge [http://www.cellublue.com/fr/wonder_body_guide.php] program is helpful for loosing weight without taking any pills for weight loss.

How about entering everything into MFP for a couple of days just to see the actual calorie count and the distribution of fats, carbs and protein.

What Witty said.

It sounds like you're eating a lot of food overall, and quite a high proportion of sweet and sugary stuff (Kit Kat AND another bar AND Options AND yoghurt? Apologies if the yoghurt is plain Greek yoghurt, but SW seems to push sugary Muller Lights which is why I'm presuming it's one of those).

Although this sort of stuff, plus unlimited pasta, might well be "allowed" on SW, it's not going to work if you're consuming more calories than your body needs.

Muller lights aren't any more sugary than plain yoghurt with fruit and it's not unlimited pasta...it's supposed to be a meal including one third replaced with speed free food until you're comfortably full.

OP, looking at what you're having...are you actually swapping out a third of your portion? Because adding veg to an omelette or putting it next to a ready meal won't affect your portion size, which is what the point of it is.

This may not be a popular view, but I've found that if I have a Hifi every day, I don't lose. If I have porridge I'm ok. Don't know why, but I'm not arguing with what works!

Hi everyone...I am stuck also..been doing SW now for 12 weeks and have lost 3.5 pounds!! I am really at my wits end and think it will be my last weigh in tonight..I stick to plan, have no syns really in the week and then have my white wine at weekends, which I did last time I went on it and lost 2 stone plus! I feel better in myself but it is so frustrating when you are there with others who are losing weekly. I am 5ft 4 and nearly 12 stone..I want to be 10.7..but at 53 I think my body is saying NO! I have been told to drink more water???

Are you pregnant?

You are having a lot of veg!

I hate slimming world when i did it. I lost 2.5 stone in 4 month but i hated the diet.

I now do weight watchers and it is much better. I ve lost 1 stone 4 pound in 16 weeks so the weight loss is slower but i feel the diet is more workable
