Slimming World

So bored of the same meals!

Have been doing slimming world for a couple months now and love it, lost well over a stone, so I'm happy.

But I'm really struggling just now with my evening meals! Sick of the same thing over and over again, yes there's loads of recipes but their all so expensive by the time you buy all the ingredients.

Does anyone have some cheap and quick family meals I could try? Have 4 kids too so preferably something that doesn't break the bank that we can all eat!

Tried loads of the recipes which are fine as one offs but like I say can get expensive when you eat them every night, the Currys are all lovely had a few of them, had the salt and pepper chicken, lasagne, soups, stews, tried a few of the pasta recipes too, omelettes, jacket potatoes.

Just wondered if anyone had any new ideas that I haven't tried that's not going to break the bank

If you are on facebook, there is a good page called 'best slimming world recipes' which I have found pretty useful (not affiliated with the page) :-) also the hairy bikers books are good and adaptable to slimming world, olus they are quite reasonably priced on amazon if that helps.

It is tricky to keep things interesting, especially when you have a family to feed!
I cant help, as those are all the sorts of things that we eat! In fact We just had an omelette! Lol Grin

There is a nice recipe you may like on bbc good food, called thai beef stir fry... Its nice and quick, and although there is steak in it, you dont need a lot and you can use the cheap lean frying steak plus fill it out with veg if necessary. Will try and find you a link.

Here we go... I add a teaspoon of sweet chilli sauce to the recipe too...

Another really cheap family recipe We like, is warm potato salad.

You need,
salad potatoes/or white potatoes cut into small chunks and par boiled.
One thinly sliced onion
Half fat creme fraiche 3 Tablespoons-ish
1 teaspoon dijon mustard (aprox)
1 teaspoon wholegrain mustard (aprox)
Salt and pepper to taste

Fry light a pan, and fry up your potatoes and onions until just golden.
Mix the other ingredients together, add the mixture to the pan for 1 minute on low, and serve with salad if you like, and any other free foods you fancy.

Exactly the kind of thing I mean!

The creme fraiche has syns, but not too bad, and it goes a fair way between everyone :-) we get the half fat from tesco, but if you want to be really good you could always give fat free fromage frais a try instead which has no syns 😊

What about quark? That's free would that work the same way?

Fajita wedges are a good family fave here too!

You need

Home made Slimming world wedges
Old el paso bbq fajita spice (not free, so you could make your own if preferred)
Tomato puree
Chicken
Peppers
Onion
Reduced fat cheddar

Cook the wedges in the oven, and fry up your chicken, peppers, onions and fajita spice. Once cooking add a few heaped teaspoons of tomato puree, and cook until done.

Add cooked fajita mix to the top of the cooked wedges in an oven proof dish, grate cheese over the top (40 g per person if reduced fat and used as Hex a)

Bake at about 190 for about 15 mins.
If you have enough syns, you can add some reduced fat sour cream too, its really really nice.

I like the 'two chubby Cubs' Facebook page too. They do a lot of SW receipes, and quite a funny blog too. My problem is my Dh works away so it's just me and the kids so I cook for them and then just eat crap when they are in bed 😔

What did you eat previously? Can we help with tweaking those meals instead of starting from cratch with new ideas?

SW pulled pork is pretty nice! I serve with SW coleslaw, salad and sweet potato wedges. All free foods.

Not if you get the free tins of stewed steak from asda or M&S, they are free if used as hex b (wholemeal thins) tesco are 5 1/2 per tin, but that is split between 6 bakes, so not too bad. Dont buy the lidl steak tins though, 14 syns ;-)
