Slimming World

Scan Bran - Does it fill you up

Whyarethebestnamestaken · 19/08/2016 20:24

They are buy one get one for a penny at Holland and Barratt at the moment and I am very tempted.

I am thinking to just have one with a cup of tea as a snack between meals to fill me up.

I have seen recipes for chocolate cake too, are they any good?

I did the scan brand challenge on slimming world. I think it's 5 (heaB) every day. I had 3 in the morning soaked in milk and sweetener with berries on top and that was very filling and hard to finish and then 2 later with laughing cow extra light.

They are like eating chip board, really not appealing.

Just a note though and sorry to lower the tone but the scan bran challenge was explosive. It certainly kept me very regular.

Yes. Because each one takes three hours to eat.

OP, if you can manage one as a snack with a cup of tea, you're a better woman than I am.
When you eat them, they suck all the moisture out of your body.
But, yes, they do fill you up.

Wow, now I am excited! I have ordered online as my local H & B does not stock them and am also thinking they would be good for a time when I am having a meal/drinks out at the weekend.

If I could just have a couple of these during the day and I do drink tea two mugs at a time as it sounds that is what I will need. If they will fill me for very few calories then I don't mind what they taste like but I may be changing my mind next week lol.

OP the scan bran cake recipes are nice, and a piece with your cup of tea would be low-syn.
Have a look at the SW website for recipes.

I really like scan bran 😳 I like them as they are with tuna or spreading cheese. On the days I have them (5/7) I end up wasting them about 11am and dont need to eat again until 7pm. Do drink lots of water if you have them, I eat all 5 and probably drink approx 3l of water and 2/3cups of coffee.

I do need to confess that I am actually not doing Slimming World. I have tried it in the past and could not get on with it.

I prefer to just calorie count and be sensible but do get very hungry which is why I would love to be able to have something filling for virtually no calories.

On days when I am eating out (maybe once a week or so) it would be fantastic to just have these during the day to save my calories for the evening meal.

What is your best recipe to use them in other ways? I did buy sweetener and high lights choc sachet to mix with scan brans and eggs as a recipe I had seen but then found I cant find them in my local H & B so have to wait until they are delivered to store.

Chocolate Scan Bran Cake:

5 scan bran
1 cup sweetener
1 tbs golden syrup
30g cocoa powder
2 eggs, beaten
200ml boiling water

Break up scan bran into small pieces and pour hot water over and leave to soak for a few minutes; fork through to avoid lumps in mix.
Add other ingredients and mix well.
Pour mixture into dish and cook in microwave for 5 minutes on full power.
Might need another minute if sides of cake not sprung away from sides of dish.

Op please try them on a day you are not going out first. Honestly they went through me like a lamboughini I couldn't have gone out. I actually tried then at work one day and I spent forever in the loo. I never ever poo at work so it was a huge deal for me. Whilst I was in there the fire alarm went off and I couldn't get off the loo and had to stroll out after everyone else sweating with panic. I am still traumatised.

I can laugh now but I was not laughing at time. I had snuck to the toilet on a different floor too so had to come down the stairs to a chorus of oh where have you been!

I made chocolate scan bran cake this week with added beetroot it was pretty lush similar to the one above soften five scan in hot green tea/fruit tea then mush up really well draining off any tea left over, add a cooked mashed/chopped beetroot 2 eggs tablespoon of cocoa powder and a toffee Muller but of sweetener nine minutes in microwave. I'm a huge scan bran fan I also have it with sliced banana and grilled bacon or topped with hot tinned tomatoes and a poached egg

Oh dear talksensetome that sounds awkward to say the least and I can just imagine it! I will take your advice on that and stay close to home the first time I have them.

I love Total fat free yogurt and saw a recipe with that in bottom and then scan bran on top with frozen berries left overnight in fridge so in the morning the juice from the defrosted berries has soaked into scan bran. That sounds delicious so will be trying that too.

Thanks for the recipes ladies

I've been creating my own mini scan bran challenge, by adding 1 slice to yoghurt as overnight yog. But to enhance the taste, I've been pre-soaking it in strong coffee, which isn't too bad. However for tomorrow, I have used strong orange squash, diluted to make squash, but very strong. Left to soak in for about 10 mins, poured away excess then added natural fat free Greek yog, fresh and frozen fruit and a vanilla yog. I also added a few drops of both orange and vanilla extract. Stirred through and in fridge ready for breakfast tomorrow.

I don't like coffee but the orange juice sounds good. I am just hoping they taste better than a lot of people are saying when they eventually arrive and if they can keep me going as a snack in between meals that will be a win/win.

I also want to try some of the recipes I have found, there was one for a cherry bakewell muffin type thing that sounds delicious.

Hi OP - if you're on FB there is a Scan bran recipes group. There are lots of ways to eat them, cakes, layered breakfasts/puds with yogurt and fruit, just using them in normal food eg beef stews or spag bol. Tiramisu seems popular!

Whyare, the scanbran in orange squash was good, didn't have a bran taste to it. Would recommend trying that. Type scan bran in Facebook and find some die hard fans, the recipes look good, just not sure how they taste.

Tried the scan bran and it is ok, not great but I wasn't expecting it to be. So far I have just had it with tomatoes sliced on top but they are a lot smaller than I expected, only half the size of Ryvita.

Also on Holland & Barratt website it shows them as being 12 calories each whereas on the packet they are 31 calories each which is a huge difference so bit disappointed in that.

I am going to try some sort of chocolate cake recipe next.
