Hi. I've just joined slimming world as my friends have all done really well on it. I'm hoping to lose a stone to start with and see how things go from there. I'm 11 stone 7 at the moment and 5 foot 7.

Just wanted to run today's meals past someone experienced if anyone has the time to give me your feedback please.

Breakfast : I always make a smoothie and share it with my boys. So we have in it a banana apple pear carrot kale cucumber. I've worked on the theory that the fruit is 4 syns each as it's blended making it 12 syns which split 4 ways is 3 syns for my breakfast. Does this sound right?

For lunch I had homemade butternut squash soup and apple and a Clementine.

For tea I made sw chicken Korma which I had with corgetti.

I've been to yoga and when I got home I made the crustless quiche for my lunch tomorrow but have just eaten half of it. It was delicious. But will that be ok? It said it was free but it tastes too good for that to be true somehow.

Any words of wisdom would be much appreciated.

So the things that jump out at me are

  1. you don't seem to have used your healthy extras? They are an important part of the plan

  2. you haven't used many syns. They are there to be used and enjoyed. You can use them weekly or daily whichever works best for you.

Otherwise it looks good to me.

I think the cheese in the crustless quiche is a healthy option? Also I have milk in my tea.

I'm saving my syns as I have a night out planned Fri when I will be drinking and dancing.

What's the recommendation for drinking? I usually drink rum and coke so was thinking of having diet coke instead.

And yep rum would be using your syns. With Diet Coke would be a great option.

2.5 syns for 25 mls

What do you make your quiche out of then? I followed a sw recipe which said cottage cheese and low fat grated cheese so I put both in.

Tbh I don't make them often and I don't like cottage cheese so I tend to just put eggs and veggies in.

You need to read the for optimising booklet that you got in your membership pack and get a better understanding of Syns. Most fruits are free so you can eat as much as them as you want.

Your breakfast doesn't sound very filling. You need to eat more satisfying meals or you will get very hungry and start snacking.

Try to use your healthy B options and have for example
Chopped apple or pear on top of 30g Muelsli
Sliced banana on top of 2 weetabix.
Use Muller light yogurts on top or an artificial sweetener.
Porridge

359 ml skimmed milk as your days allowance.
You can also have a fried breakfast ! Use Fry Lite spray and you can have lean bacon, mushrooms, tomatoes, egg.

Try and wean your taste buds off diet fizzy drinks. Go for fizzy water with lemon or lime and ice. The occasional glass of spirits or wine is OK but try to minimise your alcohol intake.

I was Same weight and height as you and lost half a stone in 5 weeks which surprised me. I do moderate exercise 6 days a week which helps.

Good Lick

Thanks for the feedback. I'm feeling good today and hopeful that this is going to work for me.

I don't have fizzy drinks at all just water or tea really so no worries there.

I've always had problems eating in the morning as it makes me feel sick although I do cook a big breakfast for my boys who have mushroom omelettes , bacon butties, pancakes etc. All I can manage is my smoothie, I don't like cereal. It keeps me going until lunchtime but we do eat that early around 12.

I made the beef stew for dinner this evening and was really impressed. All the recipes I've tried so far have been delicious.

I'm not going down the Muller Light route as I'm not a fan of artificial sweeteners. In fact that is what had put me off trying the plan previously.
