Goal weight?

I'm 5'10 and joined sw at 19st 2lb and a dress size 20 when my son was 6 days old. In 6 months I've lost 2 st 10.5lb (cutting myself a lot of slack with baby).

I'm confused by what I should set my target as. I kinda feel like I'm aiming for a dress size 14 but as I've only gone down 1 dress size I now think I may be kidding myself.

What shall I aim for?/share your goals

It's really up to you! You don't need to set your final target yet if you don't want to - you could just set a smaller goal (e.g. lose two stone) then reassess when you get to that point. Otherwise, you could pick a weight that will put you in the middle of the healthy range on the BMI table. Or, just keep going until you get to size 14 and declare that!!

I started in January last year at 12st 7.5 lb. My original aim was to lose 2 st but I'm now 5.5lb off my final target of 9st 7lb.

I haven't got a goal as I have no idea what I look like underneath all the fat, I was a size 16 at 16.. never been slimmer as an adult.

I am going in a 14 mostly now at 5ft 7, but BMI is still only just under 30 so reckon another 2 stone or so, will probably still be a size 14, I think my frame is not suited to much less!

I am 5' 7'' and my goal is 11stone 6 , this will take me just into the healthy BMI upper range and I'd be happy at that.

You goal isn't a set thing. You can easily change it. I started last April weighing 130 kg at 5ft5 and wearing a size 24/26. I set my initial goal at 100 kg as I wanted a manageable target initially. This will still mean I'm at an unhealthy weight, but I didn't want to set a target so far ahead that I just gave up. I'm now only around 8 kg away from my initial goal, so it's getting close! When I get to that, I'm going to look at what I need to be to have a healthy BMI, but I'm not sure how manageable that will be. I'm also aiming to be a size 14. Similar to Foo, I've never been smaller than a 16.

I know some people do like to pick a clothes size rather than a weight...but personally I think it's a tricky one as I found that my weight didn't necessarily correspond with a clothes size.

I started in a 22/24, got to a 12/14 after I'd lost about 5 1/2 stones and another 2 1/2 stones lighter, I'm still a 12, I'm a smallish 12 who can occasionally fit in a 10, but it's not a huge difference really for that amount of weight.

So I'd not guide myself by clothes size - I'm not saying you shouldn't, I just mean, I couldn't do that.

I set a target when I started but, having lost the four stone to get there, I've realised that I've still got quite a bit of excess weight on my tummy and arms still. I just kept an eye on the scales and when I came up a few pounds within target I asked the person weighing me to change my target which they did immediately.
I suspect I'll set another target in a bit and hopefully that will be my final target but I'll just see how I feel at the time. It's made things feel more achievable for me.

I reset my target a couple of times until I felt comfortable with it (3.5 stones). I am down 3-4 dress sizes depending on the store but never aimed for a specific size, just wanted to be happy with myself really.

Set your goal to whatever you feel is right/whatever you want!
A friend told me to make an 'achievable' goal and I see why; its a quicker result but I wanted to be honest. At nearly 17st my goal is 10st and I know it's not going to be an over night thing but in under a month I have lost 10 lbs and considering i've had a few cheat days as had a uni friend catch up day I think it's a good start.
Best of luck with your sw journey xxx

I'm 5' 9" and have set my goal weight at 9 and a half stone. I have been light than that, but find it hard to maintain.

Hello .... Can I join in?
Just joined SW this week, and (other than the 6 day old baby) I am pretty much in the same boat, OP.

I set 10% as my first goal ..... Even that'll be almost 2 stone, so will make a good difference.

But I've never really been "slim" as an adult, so I don't have an "old" weight to get back to. Notwithstanding clothes sizes being different everywhere (!), I've never been smaller than a size 14 and even that wasn't for long. So I think I'll have that at the back of my mind as an unofficial target. But, to be honest, every lb off is one in the right direction as far as I'm concerned. It didn't go on overnight, so it'll not come off that quick either!
