Slimming World

doing it on your own

Has anyone been and got the book, done it for a few weeks and then left and done it solo? I'm
Thinking of this. I know someone in real life who has done it and it worked for them, just looking to see if anyone else has done it really. I've been going since July, 2 stone 10 down. I know the ins and outs of how it works and stuff it's just that money is tight at the moment, and could do with the 20 a month I'm spending at slimming world just to get weighed (I don't stay to group). Do you think it could work?

it would all depend how disciplined you were. I have lost nearly 3 stone but even so i know that if i didn't go every week i would prob have the odd treat which would then be a downward spiral. I need some accountability in order to do it.

I have never been to a group. My mum gave me her old books a couple of years back and I'm just using those.

I'm getting my accountability from doing it with DH and from the support thread on here. Oy 2 weeks in though so we will see.

Are you on the support thread? It's v good.

I'm on a few on Facebook. Only went off plan at Xmas and nights out really. I think I could be disciplined with it but I'm uming and ahing.
Basin have you weighed yourself since starting? Have you lost anything? Do you find you have stuck to over the two weeks?

Yes we have mostly stuck to it and are really enjoying all of the new meals TBH.

We have had 1 takeaway and one meal out but these were pre-arranged things prior to starting the diet that we decided to just enjoy ourselves at, but other than those 2 meals I have been on plan. Can't speak 100% about DH but I think he has too.

I've lost 9lbs and DH 7lbs so it is working. But like I say it's early days so we will see.

I'm also viewing it as more of a change of diet in the long term sense rather than just a weight loss diet. So I'm not looking to an end point really.

Oh, but we've agreed to a takeaway on the last weekend of every month, provides we have lost a specified amount of weight that month. This month it's at least 1 lb off each week (but not an average, we have to lose each week).

Well done on your weight losses Star

Might go solo on it I think then. I thought myself it is a lifestyle change. I've done it 6 months now and it's like nature doing it now, eating the right food without thinking. Only reason I'm thinking of stopping the group is my son started swimming lessons at 20 a month so thinking the 20 going to SW can go to that. And we had a new consultant and I've not took to her at all.

I'm doing it alone too. First day today! I went in the summer for a few weeks but really didn't like the consultant. Dusted off the books and going out on my own! I am going to buy the magazine though, and religiously plan our meals and shopping lists. I think the preparation is the key whether you go to the sessions or not.

Good luck!

I tried and failed, lost nearly 2 and a half stone, thought I would carry on on my own, put the 2 back on plus another 2 , rejoined in November and I'm 1 and a half stone down again.
good luck Smile

I'll be doing it on my own too, I need to lose about 3 stone by July, which I know is easily achievable. I want to start on Wednesday hopefully.

I also do it on my own.

Started June 2015 and currently have lost 2.5 stone. Probs would have been more but Xmas arrived!

I get the mag delivered every month, follow every blog going, also Twitter and Facebook groups. I also weigh in once a week but at home.

The internet is your best friend.

over which blogs etc do you follow?

I'm keen to go it alone as group times don't suit me anymore and online doesn't seem worth it...

Was going to ask if online is worth it?
I've been doing it alone (with books, prior knowledge and internet) but I'm not losing much cos I cheat or go mad at weekends.
I wondered if Id be more organised and prepared for weekebds if I used the online thing.
Any suggestions?
Does it still have the recipe builder tool which I used to love using.
Put in all the things yiu were using to make a meal and then divide by portions and it have you the values.

I'm trying to go alone as I hate the classes.
I do find EE slows my weigh loss so I'm trying green days with only I HE not the old way of 2.
Seems to be working

Doing it without attendance here but with two family members. Have old books and I'm doing green days still as strict veggie whilst they're doing EE.
Started last Summer and haven't weighed ourselves at all but all three gone down at least 2 dress sizes so using that as our marker : ) For us, that's been best because we don't have a weigh in so no 'stuff yourself cos it doesn't count' day nor has any gain/stick weeks left us feeling despondent.
I eat out at least once a week most week's so do a slightly flexible syns thing across the week whereas they follow it more traditionally but we have tried to see it as a life style change rather than a diet.
Seems to be working quite well but agree that some support helps. Is it the weekly weigh in that keeps you focussed? If so, is there another way you could have that happen - a friend's house, NHS nurse, weigh yourself machine? Might let you save that 20 quid!
