Slimming World

I've failed at slimming world twice already

I'm joining again in the new year. First time I lost 2 5 stone then fell off at Christmas. Second time I just couldn't do it, I lost about half a stone and kept putting the same few pounds on and off.

I go on holiday in may and get married Feb 2017. I don't want to look like this Sad I have a LOT to lose. I'm miserable, hate my body, after two large babies (last one was 10.8!) I'm saggy too. I'm only 23 and it's depressing.

Any tips to actually stay on plan?! I'm an emotional eater, happy, sad, bored - I eat!

Please share your tips, I need to stick at this.

So maybe something else? Is there anything else on offer locally?

I found myfitnesspal was better, but Weight Watchers is easier as well for parents IMO. I lost most weight with Atkins but somebody else was cooking and it does have some physical risks.

I like slimming world as it fits in with cooking for the rest of the family and there isn't alot of weighing/points etc. I know it works for me, I just don't have the willpower to stick at it!

Good luck to you too Mrsbaz, I'm embarrassed to go back to be honest

I succeeded at the third attempt and lost over 4 stones this time. For me I think the key was staying to meetings which I had never done before

I am thinking of staying to group, hoping that'll help. Thanks

I have lost 3 stone with SW this year.

I love it.

My top tips are

  1. Buy a 12 week countdown which gives you 2 weeks free.
  2. Go and get weighed even if you have had a terrible week. Just face it.
  3. Surround yourself with everything SW. FB posts, IG, join my long running thread on here. Wherever you go, there will be support.
  4. Know what your trigger is. I have to avoid delicious soft white tiger bread with butter as one slice would never be enough.
  5. I also joined the social team and do weigh in every week but realise that's not for everyone.

SW has changed my life. Gone from a size 16 to a 12. Lost 6' on my boobs and made some lovely friends at the group.

I tried really hard, stuck to the plan religiously, stayed to every meeting, and did not lose anything except cash. It worked for me in the past, as did weightwatchers, but neither seem to work for me now! Best of luck.

Maybe SW is the wring plan for you? Have you tried anything else? The key to success is finding something that works for you. So it's worth thinking what your reasons for being over weight are and tackling it that way.

(Oh, and by the way, there are no physical risks with Atkins if you follow it properly - most people don't!)

I haven't tried anything else, no. I know slimming world would work if I didn't buy bars of chocolate/biscuits in secret, and promise to be good the next day.. And so on and so on. It is literally my willpower, my constant urge to eat, the stupid excuses I make to myself in order to be 'allowed' to eat the chocolate. I'm ridiculous, but that's a whole other thread! Smile

Thanks for the advice Smile

I don't think you're ridiculous. Have you ever considered a non-dieting approach? I'm a fan at the moment of beyond-chocolate. They start by looking at the diet-mentality and that for many if us restricting causes that yo to effect and doesn't work.

They lead up to addressing the reasons for overeating and relationship with food. In some ways its harder as you really look at yourself but it is so freeing to let go of the "if I could just follow a diet properly" mentality.

Weight watchers worked well for me. Food is counted on points and you feel guilty if you go over them. I found with SW I was given too much free reign and didn't work for me.

Weight watchers seems more complicated and I worry I won't put the effort in, but I know there's a group round the corner so maybe I'll go and have a look.

I like slimming world as nothing is banned. It's how I should be eating forever, so don't see it as a diet as such. That sounds interesting future, I'll look into that, thanks

Im in the same boat as you what I found helpful was hanging SW groups. The one I go to now has a really dynamic leader and the members are hilarious! Sometimes the group talk can get a bit saucy even! It really does feel like a social event rather than a slimming group. I back skid very badly the last few months due to family issues but I'm so glad to get back. Keep at it, and stay to meetings!

I'm the same. I'm going to join for the third time in Feb and feel a bit nervous about failing again. I KNOW it works- it's my willpower that's to blame. SW is great and suits me and our lifestyle well. I also feel a bit embarrassed to go back! I've worked out what went wrong before and made a plan.

My plan is:
-stay to group EVERY SINGLE WEEK
-buy 12 week countdowns as I won't be tempted to leave!
-join the fb group this time and be really open about it

In weight watchers nothing is banned either it's just more counting what you've had so you don't eat too much. And you think about what are lower point options so you can have more etc. def worth attending a meeting and finding out more if you do have one near you.

You're right longhair nothing banned on SW!! I kept weight lost on WW for5 years but after 2 kids the weighing everything felt too claustrophobic.
So far so good with SW and I find it fits well round family and FT work.

SW - via the group support - has made me face up to the realities of being an emotional eater. And why my weight can wildly yo yo around hormonal flux and why sometimes I just need to eat - but a bag of salad works just as well as a bag of chocs. Really GrinGrin If there was a pill we could take we would, but without getting too 'woo' about it SW helps identify triggers & how to deal with them. It works for so many so I hope you give it a go!! Good luck Smile

Woman magazine - the edition that's on sale until 4th January - has free membership so you only pay the weekly fee for the first week.

I lost about 1 1/2 stone the first time I did SW, and about 8 lbs the second.

The third, I stayed to group every week, joined the social team, lost 5 stone (of which I kept 4 off for 3 years). I stopped following the plan (from home) and gained another stone, so I'm back at group now dreading weigh in tomorrow morning, but that's another story and I'm 1 1/2 stone down in six months (which is slower than last time but I am unable to exercise as much). I stay every week.

I'm very similar to you - early 20's, done it twice before and first time lost two stone but second time lost 10lb, came off it in July for my birthday week and never got back on it. Embarrassed to go back to that group now but moving house in 6 weeks to a totally different area so going to do it from home until then (I still have all my books) then join a group when I get back there. 4stone to lose!
