Been doing slimming world for about 4 weeks. I started off at 11st 9lbs. I'm now 11stone 8.5 ... I keep losing and gaining the same bloody pound and I keep telling myself I don't understand why ... in the past week I have had a plate full of greasy fish and chips (worked out at about 30 syns!!), a share bag of aero bubbles (I dread to think the syns), a share bag of m&ms, a chinese takeaway, a bottle of wine and 3 cans of lager. Some days my syn count can be zero. Other days it's 45+. I only have s stone to lose so it's going to be difficult anyway but am I liddjng myself thinking my syns are within weekly limits?? I'm 5ft 10in and weight 11st 8lbs

Just to add, target weight is 10st 7lbs.

If you don't know how many syns are in something, how can you add them up?

You probably are underestimating, so work it out and write it down every day, and get rid of that pound for good smile

Well you get 105 a week.

Fill a jar with 105 pieces of pasta/marbles. Count your syns and transfer that amount of pasta/marbles into an empty jar. Then you can really see how quickly they are being used.

Well if you take the max syns per day as 15, then the weekly limit is 105 (though strictly speaking you're not supposed to really save them up I don't think). So based on the past week, you have definitely gone over your syns. If each week is similar, then that's why you're not consistently losing.

Aye, you need to write every bit of food down. Make sure all meals are one third speed foods. Find out the syn value before eating the food.

Syns are 5-15 daily, it doesn't work if you save them up for a binge. Bingeing is what gets us to the point of needing SW.

I'd say you're well over your syns!!

Thanks guys, I'll start a fresh tomorrow :-( what are speed foods? I seem to be living off mug shots and muller lights :-(

Have you read your Love Food, Love Optimising book you get in the pack? It took me a long time to get my head around it.

Bloody hell that is alot of calorific food for someone on a diet!!!

If your eating mug shot and muller lights only then your not doing it right.

Are you staying for the group or just going and getting weighed?

Have you signed up? Sounds like you're trying to do it without joining which will be hard for your motivation and also you kind of need the resources to reference. What you ate sounded like way over your syns and slimming world won't work unless you make some proper changes to your diet. Greasy fish and chips, cider and Chinese really need to be off the menu for a while

You really need to cut the junk down. The syn allowance allows for a quite small treat each day. It's never going to cover multiple share bags and takeaways per week. Beer and cider doesn't fit well in the plan either - spirits and diet mixers or wine allows a bit more alcohol. One single can of cider is probably over your daily syn allowance.

If you choose carefully, you can get away with small chocolate treats and one takeaway a week. One of the members of my group buys fun size chocolate bars and bags of minstrels etc and allows herself one or two a day.

You need to make a third of your food superfree, ie mainly fruit vegetables and salad. Then add in things like lean meat, fish, eggs, pulses and plain fat free dairy.

I don't eat muller lights at all and only have the occasional mug shot. You also need to make sure you stick to the correct healthy extra weights - these are really quite small.
