Should I join Slimming World tonight?

Hi everyone

Am at a loss as to how to shift the three stones I've gained over the last few years! I've tried a few things usually last about a month & then give up. All of these have been pretty extreme things that I hated plus exercise so I want to try something slow & steady. Something that I can do with someone else keeping an eye in me.

The problem is I have family on the diet & they swear that they eat carbs all the time! (I don't think they've lost much weight) how can that work surly carbs are fat?

Anyway do you think it would help me? My downfalls are my sweet tooth & carb overloads.

Thanks

You can eat what ever you want from 'unprocessed' foods with slimming world. Its not a diet.
Fresh lean meat, fish eggs, vegetables, fruit, pasta rice grains.
If you concentrate on nice healthy meals that fill you up you'll not have a problem with sw. Take no notice of others. Read ,& learn the plan yourself.
Carbs? Today I've had, beans scrambled egg & toast.
Pasta with bolognaise sauce,
braised steak ( into a pie with syns 7syns) and will have broccoli carrots & low fat homemade chips for tea.there's carbs in there but its the plan.
I had a sweet strawberry yogurt with a pear to stop me eating biscuits.
You just need to try.

I joined last night too. Need to loose 1 stone 3lb. I am doing the 30 day shred with it but boy that is hard. Day 3 and I still can't finish everything on level 1 do the easy option.

As to SW I have food in the fridge to finish like smoked mackerel as I refuse to throw food away so I guess I'll be having a Syn heavy week.

I am dairy intolerant so won't be able to do the whole A thing, as I only ever have non-milk milk with my porridge. To have the full whack I need porridge for lunch too but that is more syns so I'm kind of in a bind with that one.

My son accident my bought soya milk which I can't tolerate so currently I have the runs every day and assume that might reduce he effect of the syns :0)

No idea how I'll do but good luck with your weight loss. Let's hope we both have the will power to keep going. I want to keep it up for the summer but after that I'm back at work with strange shifts so it might be tricky but hope it will have given me good habits so I can then go it alone.

Can you tolerate almond milk XinaW as you can have a litre a day as HEA? You don't have have the max Healthy Extras, but they are to keep up your calcium levels for example with A's. I'm not using my B's most days unless I remember to do overnight oats.

Divide the mackerel up into portions and freeze.

This "Diet" is very strange for me... I've eaten lots of carbs compared to how i usually eat, as it was in small amounts. Its making me feel a little bloated and my sugar craving are thought the roof.

On the plus side I've been cooking lots of different dishes from scratch and everyone has lovely them! Which is amazing because i can't usually get the kids to eat anything i make that contains veg.

I really don't feel like i will have lost any weight as i feel fatter, surly that can't be right?

It took my body a while to get onto it tbh. I felt really bloated the first week, I upped my water intake which helped.
I didn't think I would have lost weight as I felt bloated but was 3.5lbs down in my first week.
The sugar cravings come and go. I found the chocolate hifi light bar is chocolately enough to stop the craving. Otherwise I eat a meringue at 2.5 syns with yogurt and fruit.

Oh well that's encouraging to hear as I feel quite bad hopfilly it will pass & I'll will loose weight. I hate the thought of putting on, on my first week!

I've been eating rice crackers which have syns but low & that's helping with the cravings Smile

Also I've done zero exercise this week, that's probably not helped!

Well done LadyMary
Can I ask, have you been eating fruit? I've been on/off low carb for 3 years. I tried to switch to SW about a month ago but felt so bad and bloated eating carbs and fruit that I couldn't stick to it Sad. I can't get back to low carb either so I'm failing all round.

I might revisit SW next week (or leave it till after my holiday that week after!)
I've joined online but haven't bothered even logging on.
Thank you for the reply. I'll keep watching the thread

Yes it really is a total shift for me to, I always assumed I couldn't eat carbs, they are evil! But it's really been the fat in my diet that's been my downfall. I've been good this week so far & did a little exercise.

The thing is compared to what I usually try i feel positive about this. Usually am very fed up by now & not enjoying it one bit.

Good luck on the weigh-ins everyone, let me know how they go.

Oh sorry just seeing this now Star! Hope you've got on well. Be prepared is the most important taje fruit/bars as a snack, plan your meals, shop online & batch cook. It all really helps stay focused.

Weighed in today lost 2lbs!! Got my half stone award, so happy. Onwards and upwards girls :)

Lost 1.5 pounds.I was really happy with this as I had a 3 day wedding weekend where it was nigh impossible to stick to the diet rules. One morning dashing to a plane I has Sushi for breakfast ( healthiest option).Another morning I had poached eggs and tomatoes on toast .Then the rest of the day went pear-shaped.I shall try and be really good this week!

I've cooked spaghetti bolognase and pork ghoulash. They were both fine but i basically used my own recipe with the spray oil ( garlic fry light) and put loads of extra vegetables in and less onions than they say( sensitive to onion).Chicken breast pan fried in garlic fry light is moist and tasty with salad.I also use Tescos Virgin olive oil spray in salad with balsamic vinegar - 5 sprays is one syn.Over-night oats with fruit is filling and delicious.I think that's the sum total of my cooking so far!
Well done to you too Ladymary.

I have had a mixture of successes and failures with the recipes! I have found a couple of other websites that have some good ones on there: www.shecookssheeats.co.uk/ and www.slimmingeats.com/. I find it much easier to browse through those websites too. I cooked Chicken Chow Mein from that first site the other night. It was to die for!

I've tried the cottage pie, pretty similar to the usual so that went down well. The chicken jambalaya wasn't great I don't like dinners that are all in one if you know what I mean.

Anyone tried the diet coke chicken yet?

Hello. Can I join you please?

Joined SW yesterday. Am a bit concerned about the carbs too! Especially the sugar. Going to try not to go overboard.

I've done everything over the years. Was most successful with WW but the friend I did that with is now doing SW and finding it easier to stick with so I thought i would give it a try. Will manage two weigh ins before I go on holiday. Hope to lose half a stone by then.

I did the spag Bol from th extra easy booklet last night. It was fine. I added loads of Worcestershire sauce and more herbs than the recipe called for.

Doing the pork escalopes with swede mash tonight.

Planning chicken fajitas tomorrow night.

Had some broccoli soup from th freezer for lunch and some tuna salad. Feeling hungry now though!

I like the look of the chicken jambalaya - I quite like stuff like that.

Not sure I'm brave enough for the diet coke chicken! Sounds odd. You try! Grin

Hi Cider, yes please join us!

I felt the same in all honesty i was totally against the SW plan as family told me it was all carbs and sugar and i was totally against it/couldn't understand how that would work. I always limited carbs but I've found that what i was told wasn't total truth and so far it working for mw which is fantastic.

Ive done very limited exercise but i really need to do something about that this weekend.

I m very limited for time tonight as its the school fate and i need a fast and easy dinner. I will try the Diet coke tomorrow night though :)

Emma thanks for those websites they are pretty good!

Hello, can I join you? I just started today (started a different thread on how totally confusing I found it but getting head around it a bit more now!) am feeling positive with 2 stone to lose- nothing has made me shift more than 1/2 stone which I then put back on, for the past 2 years! So fingers and toes crossed that this will be successful- am very motivated! Grin

Hi LadyMary - I think it is def possible to do SW without lots of carbs or sugar. I will definitely be keeping an eye on carb intake and portion control. I haven't had many carbs today - 2 slices of wholemeal soda bread. Only other carbs have been fruit. And one Muller Light yoghurt - was hungry this afternoon so sliced a banana and pour d the muller light on top and added a sprinkle of flaked almonds and pumpkin seeds.

Dinner was ok. We had a pork escalopes recipe from the Extra Easy booklet. I forgot to buy a swede so used some frozen carrot and swede mix.

Had a nectarine and an apple after.

Been quite good today.

Hi AppleSnapple - I'm feeling motivated too. Long may it last!
