Slimming World

12lbs to target and pregnant!

I've just found out in pregnant, about 5 weeks, which is great.

The only thing is I'm 12lbs away from target, I have lost over 4 stone since giving birth to DD 17 months ago.

Is it safe for me to try and get to my target now? I'm just scared of ballooning like I did last time...

I spoke with consultant the other day and she said it was fine to continue, although you need to get a note from midwives to support it. Slimming world is more like a healthy eating plan so probably be good for pregnancy!

I didn't continue going as I was so feeling too ill to eat anything but cheese on toast!!

You're not supposed to try to lose weight while pregnant, it can reduce the nutrition available for the baby. However, for some women who are classified as overweight or obese to begin with, it is suggested to minimise weight gain - a good friend of mine had a BMI of 30 and was told by her doctor to try not to gain, and actually gave birth at the same weight she was when she found out she was pregnant. If you're not in this situation it's probably not recommended, though. Could you talk to your midwife?

I think your consultant will give you a plan to maintain, not lose with more milk etc in it?

I don't know but just wanted to say I am in same boat. Put on 4 stone with dc1. November this year finally back into my own clothes. December-pregnant! My resolve to not make the same pigging out mistakes keeps wavering but so far I think I've gained less than last time.

I'm going to chuck all my small clothes as they were bought in 2011 (at least) and start saving for 2015 when I will be slim again

Thanks for the advice. I think I'm going to continue, but try and go for maintaining my weight as much as possible. Rather than trying to get to my target.

I had such a difficult birth last time and I think my weight was a big factor, my bmi was around 34, it's 23.8 now.

I want things to go as smoothly as possible this time.

@sunny it's great that your friends gp advised her on her weight gain during pregnancy.

When I was pregnant the first time round, no one mentioned anything to me about my weight.

I feel this time I am more educated about healthy eating, I never cook anything out of a jar or packet anymore and rarely use frozen food.

I'll speak to my consultant though, I don't want to damage my baby
