SW Basics?

Completely no idea if this forum is only for existing SW people, but I'm thinking about doing the diet but have no idea how it's all worked out.

Is there like a SW for dummies book or website? Calories allowed, what food is good bad evil etc?

To date I have tried the ADF, Rosemary Conley, Slimfast, other various diets..... and still a tubby lard arse. (My meds don't help as have RA and it's usually steroid central!!!)

Any help appreciated. Thanks x

Ooh I wondered this as well. My inlaws did it and I seem to remember ted days and green days and something about carbs on one but not the other? And then there are syns which are used for "extras"- no idea how those are worked out. I had a look at their 7 day menu online and it looked very doable. I wish they put more info on their website but I suppose they can't put so much on or else you wouldn't need to join.

You can join online or go to a group.
You could look on eBay for books people are selling but tbh, SW updates often and you would miss out on updates if you don't join.

Basically - it's eat freely from a list of foods which are fruit, veg, pulses, rice, pasta, eggs, lean meat and fish, but a third of your portion should be what they call super free foods, which are some fruits and your non starchy vegetables.

You then get what they call healthy extras, which is a measured portion of mostly dairy stuff and one of high fibre stuff.

On top of that you get up to 15 syns a day for anything else - but they're not massively generous, a teaspoon of sugar is 1 syn for instance.

The idea then is that you mostly eat low fat high fibre foods and not so much of the stuff that's higher in calories.

You do get red and green days as well - but they are more complicated.

If you go along to a group, you get all the information given to you in a pack on the first night - you get access to all the website as well. I'm not sure how joining only online works tbh. The information pack and the website have the full lists of food, all the healthy extras and syn values of foods.

Once you've joined and read it all,, it's really pretty straightforward and really easy to do if you cook from scratch anyway - it's not so good if you use a lot of convenience foods.

I've just seen all the comments! Thank you ever so much. There's a SW group 10 mins away, I might do some investigating and get the latest information. Grin

Looking forward to it now :-) xx

You won't regret joining SW @ £4.95 a week...I was spending more on choc & crap. It took me a couple of weeks to get myself in SW mode, but now it's a healthy way of eating with lots of veg, fruit, & fat free cooking. The family can enjoy all the recipes. It's the only diet where you won't be hungry. I've lost 9lb since new year, & I've had a Curly Wurly (6 syns) every evening.
