Brief description of slimming world?(11 Posts)
I used Myfitnesspal and I stuck to 1250 calories a day.....and I was putting on weight rapidly.
Went to SW - started losing straight away. And we're mainly vegetarian.
Also surprised that none of your friends got on with slimming world, I've lost 2st in 16 weeks, and have a similar amount to go.
Can I just add, sw don't recommend mug shots or low fat yoghurts, they are just 'free' food same as hundreds of others. The foods you 'have' to eat on plan, superfree foods, are fruit and veg.
In my group, there are some members who put on/take off a pound each way, but in all honesty they are not eating to plan. There are also several 'target' members, who have maintained their healthy weight for months or, in a couple of cases, years. The rest of us are losing 1-2 lb a week, a healthy, recommended weight loss.
I've tried calorie counting, and don't find it's healthy for me. I just use up calories on crap, and then run out of calories by tea time.
I have been doing slimming world for 9 weeks and have lost just over a stone. I don't have a lot to lose ( another 3lbs to goal weight) I find it very easy to follow and it fits in well with my family. I can cook many dinners that we can all eat. Good luck
Yoni, I find that so surprising that SW didn't work for ANY of your friends!
There are so any incredible SW success stories on here bluemonkey, I hope you find them.

I dislike some of the SW recommended foods. To me, it isn't really a healthy diet.
i.e. low fat fruit yogurts. Or mug shots etc.
The portion sizes aren't so controlled either - you have to use your own fullness barometer.
The only good thing I found was the diarising of all foods in.
but you can do that yourself at home.
sorry, if I am being a total downer on SW. It may work for some, but not for me or anyone from my group of friends .
Well I would say I eat a fairly healthy diet as I have a lot of fresh fruit and veg but obviously I do something wrong as I have so much to lose.
Think my down falls and wine, big portions at dinner time and snacking throughout the day without thinking.
I do need to be able to cook for six of us though and dh and elder dc eat like horses (but built like beanpoles so unfair) so i need something everyone can enjoy.
I need to do something though I'm in such a rut and its really bringing me down
It never worked for me. I think it was more successful with those women/men who had a lot to lose, and ate a bad diet.
If you already eat a pretty healthy diet, then imo Sw won't do it.
I have tried a few classes over the years, in different locations - and most of the members were a lb up one week a lb down the next. Very few members got to goal, or maintained a significant loss.
Sorry forgot to add, if you are happy to cook (rather than buy ready made) then, yes, it is soooo easy to fit round family. There are five of us - this week we've had :
pork medallions, spring onin mash, veg
I always have breaded chicken breasts on stand by if one of my DC really claims to dislike what they see I'm making, but mostly we all eat the same.
Personally, I would say the weight loss is not as quick as on WW but both the diet and the weight loss are much much more sustainable. If you stick to it properly you should lose every week. You won't be hungry.
So, most people do extra easy - you can eat lots of lean meat, veg, pots, rice, pasta etc. 1/3 of your plate must always be 1/3 super free food (ie veg). You get up to 15 syns for treats etc.
I've put on a stone since I gave birth to baby dd! How is that even possible? I'm fat miserable and need to do something. Have about 3-4 stone to lose overall.
Weight watchers is just not for me, I do great for a few weeks then get bored of counting points.
There is a slimming world starting next week near me which I want to try but I'm getting info overload looking at these boards.
Can anyone give me a idiots guide to how it works and if its easy to fit around a large family. Many thanks.
