Sleep

What age did your baby move into their own room at night?

DS is three months old and currently sleeps in our room, this is causing some serious sleep deprivation - I am quite good at sleeping through most of his noises but DH suddenly leaps out of bed if he hears any noises that he thinks are a little odd - there are normally 2/3 of these per night - I am sure DH sleeps better when I take DS into nursery and sleep on the futon we have in there - DS goes into big cot or I take moses basket with me. However then I miss sleeping beside DH.

I would be grateful for any info/tips/advice you can provide - I know the SIDS guidelines are that babies should room in until they're 6 months old but I am sorely tempted to shift him out at the moment.

TIA

I moved DS into his own room at 3 months on the advice of my HV, and it was fine. For peace of mund you could have a monitor on all night, but tbh, you'll hear them crying anyway

My boys each moved into their own room at around this age (somewhere between 10 and 14 weeks) - mainly due to the fact that this was the age at which they outgrew their moses basket and I wasn't going to have a fullsize cot in with us!

My dd was in her own room right from the start. I know it's not for everyone, but it worked very well for us. We didn't bother with a monitor in the bedroom; we heard her when she cried.

ds went in the kitchen at 5 months once he was weaned so I couldnt hear him when he cried! It is cooler there and he sleeps in a travel cot.

I was so sleep deprived and jumped at every wimper. He now sleeps from 7-7 and we are all much happier.

How do you do that Lockets? Mine are 3.3yrs and 8 months. Do they not disturb each other?

We had no choice but to put DS in his own room from about 2 months before that he slep with us, but he wasnt sleeping well, he refused a moses basket and his cot just wouldnt fit in our room so he was in his room next door, we just invested in a good baby monitor - hes 11 months now and doing fine.

DD went out at 6 weeks due to similar sleep deprivation reasons.

We had the sensor pad monitor.

My DS moved into his own bedroom at about 8months, he was still waking up to feed almost every two hours!!! It was obviously out of habit not because he was hungry and i was totally exhausted. Anyway we wanted to start control crying and that was the only way.
I honestly feel you have to go with what works best for you.

DD still in our room at a year this is due to logistics (long story she has never had her own room) TBH if she had would have wanted her in with us fof the first year.

5 months but that was too long really. She was ready well before that but I wanted to be able to have her close. Stupid because it is too hot and stuffy for 3 people to sleep in the same room really. She and we slept so much better the very night she was in her own room.

About 2.5 years!
I preferred to have them close while they were little enough to be waking in the night. Within arms length, actually.

Oh, to have a spare bedroom! My dd is 15 months and still sleeps in my room as I only have one bedroom... I think I will get somewhere bigger soon but not for a while yet... thinking of getting a sofa bed!

Ds went into his own room at about 4 months. He'd outgrown the crib, but there wasn't enough space for his cot in our room, and neither of us slept well if co-sleeping.

He is also a very 'sucky' sleeper - makes loads of noise, and I was waking every hour or so. Used a monitor on full voloume, even though his room was next to ours and so his cot only about 5ft away....paranoid first timers. We had to keep the door of his room shut to stop the cat mauling or smothering him during the night (because she might have you know )

6 weeks as DH wasn't sleeping through all the shuffling, snuffling, grunting, etc (no-one tells you how noisy a sleeping newborn is!)
I was distraught for a week or two but they both coped fine
