What's with the 5am waking?

I've posted this before several months ago. We are back in the torturous phase of being woken up at 5.30. I CAN'T STAND IT!
My brain doesn't function at that time - I am unable to utter the stern words "you get back to bed this instant"...instead I dribble and slobber and say something pathetic like "it's still nightime, come on get in my bed but be quiet". Bless him he's only 3 and sometimes he does manage to lie relatively still and quiet, but most of the time he is lively and awake and wants to play superheroes.

What do I do? I have bags under my eyes and I feel like I can't function properly! This feels like the tiredness from those first few hideous sleep deprived weeks when he was first born!

Bonkers I know. I don't go to be late (10.30).

You're not alone. My DD (who is 15mo) has been waking at 5-ish for weeks. I get the occasional reprieve and thought we'd cracked it (with her new blinds and moving her cot) and she had started sleeping till 6.30-7.00! But this morning it was 5am. I try to get her to go back to sleep. What time does your little one go to bed?

my ds has been doing this on and off since day dot. We have tried everything and I mean everything to change is waking times and it varies between 5.30 and 6.30 but no later than that. We've resigned ourselves to fact that he is just an early waker but I do hate it.

Apparently it's very common in boys and in active boys particularly. We had a 5.45 this mornign.

they all seem to go through it periodically - no idea why.

With our 3 year old we found giving him a digital clock and telling him 6am (in our case) was get up time - before that was stay in bed time. It worked for us.

Mine are all boys as well.

Mine is also doing this at present. I think it's the light mornings. Best I can advise is what I do when the little one re-appears.

"Sorry darling but Mummy doesn't do mornings - get in with us if you want to but Mummy is staying in bed".

Admittidly these words sometimes brink shrieks of anger from DS (who is 2.5) but sometimes, blissfully he climbs in and cuddles up and it's really nice.
