Sleep

20 months - how much sleep

How much sleep does your 20 month old have?
dd2 sleeps about 11.5 hours a night on average then about 1 hour (sometimes 1 hour 20 or 30 mins) but is now starting to resist the daytime nap. Yesterday she stayed awake all day until about 4pm when we drove back home from our day out - I woke her up when we got home after 25 mins sleep and she went to bed happily 6.45 pm...

I wondered if she will start to drop the nap soon?

my dd goes to bed around 7 ish and wakes around 7:30 ish . Also has 1 hr 20mmins during day. She gos through bouts of not wanting to go down during day, but most of the time she likes it.I think Ive asked on here about day nap going (mummy needs it to, the break that is!!)and majority drop it around this age , but some still like it.

Nemo - do you put him to bed any earlier if he doesn't nap in the daytime?
I hope dd doesn't drop hers yet - I'm not quite ready for that!!!

if he osnt nap then i try to put him to bed he usually throws a fit..so i compromise and give him a book to read in bed.

Various books (...and I have a few about toddlers sleep) say at 18-24 months the average sleep is 13-14 hours a day, of which 1 & half- 2 hours should be naps. they vary so much tho' - my DS has 10 hours at nite & 3 hours in the day.

My DD goes to bed at 7pm and wakes around 6.30am. She then goes back to bed around 9.30ish until 11.30. Most days she will also have a nap around 3pm for an hour. I am waiting for her to drop the afternoon sleep, but I will usually find her at the bottom of the stairs waiting to go up! If she doesn't get that afternoon nap she is awful during bathtime, so I'm not rushing her to drop it. I am a true believer that if children get decent naps during the day they actually sleep better at night.

My 20 month old sleeps 8-7ish plus one hour in the day. We always have to wake her up, though, after an hour because any sleep she has in the day instantly goes from the night. ie: she starts waking too early for us. Having said that, nightime sleep is not always consistent. This morning was a hideous 6.15, occasionally we get until 7.30. on rare occasions we get a quarter to eight. I envy those mums whose babies sleep twelve hours a night though. I used to put dd to sleep at 7 and she woke at 530 every day. I imagine it would be six if I started doing that now and that's a time of day I can't face....

My daughter takes after both of us - she is an always has been a chilled. She sleeps about 14 hours at day at 2 years old - sometimes even 16. She even enjoys laying in her cot and watching TV. Girl after my own heart.

DS is 19.5 months. He likes his sleep, although the amount he has depends on whether he is at nursery or at home with me.

Nighttime is about 7:30 until 7, although can vary (generally less rather than more). Daytime he will have at most 1.5 hours at nursery. I am more boring I think as he will generally have at least 2.5 hours when he is at home.

So he has about 13-14 hours in total.
