I am exhausted my dd used to sleep through from 630pm now she is waking up at 4/5am and not going back to sleep. Any ideas why and what I can do, is there anything? Thanks

oh that's hard isn't it. Have you tried putting her down slightly later at night ? Have you thought about nap times in the day - ie her having less nap time ? Are you able to leave her for a bit to see if she falls back to sleep or does she want attention as soon as she wakes ? Is she teething ?
My DS ( 23 months) started waking at this time a few weeks ago and I think it was because he was getting a bit chilly. I have started putting a blanket over him before I go to bed and this seems to have helped him sleep longer.

have no solutions but do have plenty of sympathy!

my 15mo is waking up at 5am every day now. For a few weeks before that it was 530/45 which was plenty early enough but she was at least going back to sleep after having some milk.

This week it's been 5am waking and staying awake till 1130/1230 before giving in to have a nap.

She sleeps from 7pm like her sister who is a year older. They nap roughly the same amount in the day but dd2 gets up at least 2 hours before dd1. The other day it was 3.5 hours different!

I thought it may be a bit of a lie in today as she had a shorter, earlier nap but no 5am it was.

DH has limited sympathy for me as he thinks I should go to bed at 7pm if I'm tired. I think this results in me having absolutely NO life/time to myself. 14 hour days of dealing with two toddlers then sleep and repeat.

Anyway not helping at all but sharing your exhaustion- I can barely see straight I'm so tired.

Thanks everybody, we tried the go to bed later last night but she still woke at 430!! Could try the cut down in day sleep but that will mean I get no sleep and will have to go to bed at 7pm, sky + eastenders and watch it at 5am tomorrow, crazy life I lead!

Hi Mazzap,

I have a similar situation with my dd who is 13 mnths, she wakes at 5 every day, and I have moved bedtimes, shortened naptimes etc and it makes no difference whatsoever - she's still up at 5. So in the end, I brought bedtime forward so that at least she would be rested when she got up.

I also lead the giddy life of watching the soaps at 5am!

Tried shoretning nap yesterday and putting her to bed later.

It did make a difference..

she was up for an hour and a half in the night and slept til 630 am.

Poor you mazzap I'm guessing your DH will be away for xmas then?
