Sleep

Am I doing this right?

Bit of a dilemma here - just wondered if you would allow this.

DS is now 2.5 and we recently converted his cotbed into a bed. This has been fine and we've had no problems - especially as he always slept in a Grobag.

However, with the advent of hot weather I have dispensed with the Grobag. Result - DS now knows he can get out of bed etc.

I have put a safety gate on his door to stop him from exploring the house in the depths of night etc. However, when he goes to bed he is in and out of his bed for up to two hours playing with toys etc. So far I have ignored this as once he's ready for sleep he always gets into bed. However, last night when I went to check on him I discovered he was sleeping with the entire toy contents of his room (or it seemed that way) and was asleep squeezed into a small corner of his bed.

I should say that I am still fairly relaxed - but should I be quite so horizontal about it - am I storing up problems by not insisting he stays in bed etc?

What do you all think - would you do this - should I be re-thinking things?

ahh bless, he sounds so sweet.

If he isn't coming to any harm and isn't staying up until an unacceptable time, I would just be persistent with returning him to bed.

I also found that cutting out daytime naps at this age helped to ensure that DS went straight to sleep.

when mine first went into a bed we had all sorts of high jinks for the first week or 2 - he's fine now and generally goes to sleep pretty much as before (i.e. fairly quickly). Now, mornings.......that's another thread entirely of course!
Good luck
