Sleep

Habit: milk during night..easy route out?

My 10 month old DS is great at getting off to sleep after a story but wakes at least twicw in the night, usually around 1ish then 4/5 ish. The only way we've found of getting him back to sleep is to give a bottle of milk. He generally sinks at least 8 oz after his bottle before bed! I know I've given in and created this habit so I'd like to make breaking it as easy as poss on my spud. Any ideas? I don't think its a case of not eating enough during the day because he eats really well and above average for both height and weight on stupid growth charts. What do you think?

How long has he been waking in the night for?

If you're confident he's getting enough to eat/drink during the day, try just giving water in the nightime; that way he'll realise it's not worth waking up for.

He's been waking for about a month.
I'm gonna try the water tonight, have tried it before but he refused to stop screaming. I was wondering about diluting it? Is that ok cos I know the tin says to match quantity of powder with water, am I worrying too much?!

I sometimes used to put more water to powder ratio, I think it's the other way round which is a no-no.

I dropped it gy cutting it down by an ounce a week. By the time we were down to two oz dd couldn't be bothered and slept through. Painless

Just thought of another way to try - gradually reduce the amount of milk you give by 1 ounce each nightime feed, each night. That's how I reduce ds' nightime feeds in the early days.

Right my teeth are gritted for this one! I'm gonna reduce it as you've suggested will keep you posted. Thanks for suggestions

Just remember - it might be tough for a few nights, but once it's cracked, think how much better it'll be! Good luck!
