At 5.30 this morning when my 9 week old DD decided that it was a perfectly reasonable time to start the day, I sat in the dark and realised how far we had come.

About 6 weeks ago I would have given my right arm to of had her sleeping from 8.30 to 5.30 with just one feed in between.

To some people this amount of sleep may be a gift, to others it may be regarded a v bad night, depending on indervidual circumstances.

However I know that with help and advice we have gone from waking every 2 hours to almost having enough sleep to feel human.

For that reason I thought maybe it would be a good idea to have a general tips and previous experiances page in the sleep section?

Im sure some new Mums will find it a great help, even if it is just used to read through at 2am!! (or 3am, or 4am, or 5am!!)

My tips-

Swaddling,

Try to encourage feeding every 2 hours in the evening up until bedtime. ie 4pm, 6pm and then 8pm and bed!

Keep lights low, and changing areas warm (with fluffy blankets over changing mats) to try to encourage them to stay sleepy in the middle of the night!

Any help to get my DD to go back to sleep and stay asleep after 5.30 am?? Would be appreciated!

Fill a hot water bottle when you go to bed & place in baby's bed to keep warm when you take her out to feed in the middle of the night to keep her sheets warm. (But please remove again when baby is back in bed!) Getting back into a cold bed isn't nice (for any of us!). May come in handy these next few cold months... bottle nice to take back to bed with you after little one is settled again too.
