Baby sleeping in same room - when to move into own room

I never thought I'd say it but I'm feeling really sad about moving DD out of our room and into her own (in the early days, with all the grunts, groans and snuffles I couldn't wait to get her out of our room but I have somehow grown accustomed to her noises in the last 6 months.) So I am tempted not to move her out for a while longer... My reasons for keeping her in our room are purely selfish, DH and I both like having her in there but on the other hand we don't want her in with us forever (would be weird to say the least when we hit the teenage years ) - but what's in the best interests of the baby at this point? Is it going to be more disruptive to move her out when she's older?

How old is your dd? If you both like having her in your bedroom then I don't think there's any hurry to move her out. With ds2 I started off by breastfeeding him in his own bed at bedtime and letting him come into our bed if he woke up in the middle of the night, so he didn't feel pushed out. This was at about 18 months so he could happily move between rooms under his own steam.

Kids are so different though. I had had a figure of 6 months in my head for ds2 but because he had severe reflux and breastfed frequently at night it would have been horrible for everyone if I'd tried to keep him in his own room (and I'd have had even less sleep than I had anyway). I also tried to stop nighttime feeds at 14 months (very gently, using ideas from the No Cry Sleep Solution) but this was clearly the wrong time. Based on my experience with ds2 I'm planning to move ds3 at about 18 months but I'll just have to see how he takes it.

DD is still in our bed room at 18 months so there's no hurry if you don't want to move her.

Thanks. She's 6 1/2 months at the moment, we figured she would move out into the nursery at 6mo, but I guess if moving her out later isn't going to cause any more problems down the line we can play it by ear. It does make night feeds easier too...

Ds was 1 year old and it was the right time as he was starting to wake with noises we make. I felt really sad when we moved him but he sleeps so well now in his own room!

It is a really personal decision. DD1 moved out at 5.5 months. We had been to France, where she slept in a cot, so seemed silly to put her in a crib again on her return.

DD2 only moved out in March, at 19 months.

DD3 is only 14 weeks, so will be in with us for a while yet.

DD was 15 months and we shifted things around to decorate, she went in her own room after it was finished.

Had 6 months sleeping without babies then DS arrived...I expect he will be in with us til at least a year as I'm hoping to continue BF. No rush to move them out IMO, do what you're happy with.
