Sleep

10 month old can't resettle himself

I'm a new member here in need of some advice. DS is 10months old and has a good bedtime routine. He has always been put down on his back as advised but for the last month has flipped onto his front to sleep. I don't worry about this as he seems fine. However, he wakes between 3 and 7(!!!!) times a night now (used to be 7pm - 7am). He pushes to his hands and knees or sits up and cries. He still seems half asleep but doesn't seem to be able to lie himself back down. I only need to lie him back down and give him his dummy and he's back to sleep. Does anyone have any advice on how to train him to do this for himself? Or will he grow out of it? I've tried controlled crying but it just wakes him up properly and then takes 10 times longer to settle him. Help please!!!

Sorry but I don't have any ideas, that's a new and hideous problem to me! My sympathies to you. I just wanted to reply because I felt as a new member it was sad that no one else had! Hopefully it is a phase. And hopefully someone from Mumsnet will come along who has been there before. Good luck.

We're having the same probl;em with 9 month old ds Jen although only one wake up not so many. We ssupect it might be that he's losing his dummy (through the bars of the cot) so I'm going to try and get one of those clips so we can attach it to his pyjamas and he can then put it back in himself. Our solution with dd was just to puot lodas of dummies it her cot so she could always find one .

our little one couldn't put the dummy back in, so we took it away, and he stuck his thumb in

Thanks for replying.

He has a couple of dummies in his cot and knows how to put them in. He really doesn't seem to be awake. Last night it only happened twice so it's an improvement!! We are moving bedtime later as he also wakes too early. He slept for an extra hour and a half this morning!! I'm really not sure why he is waking - well half waking - and I was hoping someone had a miracle cure!! Haha x

In case anyone is interested we have had 3 nights of 730pm - 630am w/o waking. Touch wood quick - I don't want to jinx it!!!

Thanks to those who replied but don't ask me how we did it as I have no clue!!

Hi Jen76. We are also having this problem with DD 11mths. Always been a good sleeper and eliminated early morning waking with black out blinds and black out lining for curtains. For the last two days she is half waking and sobbing at 4am. She doesn't appear to be teething so I think she just expects someone to come in and help her back to sleep. Last night tried the Dr Ferber technique of leaving her for 5 mins, then 10mins, then 15 mins. She eventually settled back to sleep after nearly an hour and was tired when I had to wake her at 7.30am. I'm just it's just another phase and hopefully will sort itself out just like you.

He's still sleeping thru now so I can only assume it was a phase. Hope your phase ends quickly Mel
