Sleep

would it be so wrong?

since dd2 had an illness a month ago I've not had a full/good night's sleep as she still keeps waking up in the night even though she is better.
I know we need to retrain her but i have had the most awful cough and cold for 4 weeks which I've been unable to shift, probably due to lack of sleep! I desperately need to have a good nights sleep to regain strength and energy, would it be so wrong to dose up dd2 with some medised just for the night so I could get some rest?

God no! Do it.

Do it! It won't do your dd any harm, and you'll feel miles better for a decent night's sleep. It might even kick off her sleeping through again.

dh said to go stay in a hotel for the night - but the cheapest round here is about 70.00 and I can't bring myself to do that... anyway, I probably wouldn't sleep so well in a strange room and bed (unless I drank copious amounts of alcohol first - maybe it is a good idea !!!!

Don't quite understand what would be wrong with Medised?

No it wouldnt be so wrong, i cant tell you how many times ive been tempted to do the very same thing. It doesnt work on ds so waste of time for us.
My neighbour jokingly told me that her husband can get phenegan on the black market........ooooh tempting!

Goodness me, the amount of times i've used it in the name of a decent night's sleep!!

So long as you don't go over the recommended dose i honestly can't see any reason in the world why you shouldn't put yourself first! Remember - a rested mother is a happier (therefore nicer) mother.

The only thing I would say is do you know if it works on her in the desired way? Some children react "better" to Medised than others do.
Really hope that one way or another you get that undisturbed night - I know from experience how low you can get from lack of sleep.
Are you also taking a good multivitamin and maybe also Floradix? And maybe try echinacea to help you shift that horrible cold?

I am taking a multivitamin & minerals from Biocare - also extra vitamin C.
The Medised usually works.. have used before when she was poorly... the only time it didn't work was when she had an ear infection. Fingers crossed it will have the desired effect.
Thanks for all your support everyone.

donbean - You can buy phenergan from the chemists. dd has it for travel sickness. I have used it when dd got into a bad sleep pattern. Two nights and she was back to normal.

Someone please tell me what this Medised and Phenergan is. My DD (2yrs) is going through the same sort of bad sleep pattern and at 34wks preggers, I just dont need it.
Every night I dread what time she is going to wake up and ruin yet another nights sleep.
Last night it was 4am through to 5.50am when I couldnt stand it any longer, and she got into bed with me.

Medised has a decongestant element to it that knocks most kids out-its great when they have a bad cough and your Dr is saying that cough mixture is bad-its good for teething at its worst-its also good every so often when you want them to have a good nights sleep-and you-but not to be abused!

Report
LooneyLaura · 09/05/2005 21:13

Do I ask for it by name or can I just ask the pharmacist to something to knock the little out for the night?!

Report
dropinthe · 09/05/2005 21:14

Most chemists sell it!

I'll be knocking on their door in the morning in that case!

i give my dd the minimum dose if shes had a poor nights sleep previous, then no afternoon sleep on the day..actually did it tonight, as when they get over tired, they are restless and the only thing that rectifies it, is a good nights sleep for them.
saying that im sathere looking at a piccy of my dd and thinking i might bring her into bed with me tonight

I did give dd some medised when she went to bed. She still woke up a couple of times, but instead of crying for ages... she just went back to sleep without me going in.... it obviously just settled her enough to go back on her own - fab!! She was still awake at 5.30 am this morning though - full of beans!
At least I had a pretty decent run of sleep which I haven't had in ages...
