Sleep

how to get my baby to sleep later in the morning

I know compared to most sleep issues this is fairly inconsequential, but I'm starting to get the holy grail of sleep!

DS is 6months old, initially (once over the newbron phase) he'd sleep til 7 or 7:30am, about 2 months ago that turned into 6-6:30am. Last week we went to stay with my mum in France and he went back to sleeping til 7-7:30. Came home and this continued.

The last two mornings he's woken at 6am, I have the monitor on so leave him as long as I can until I can hear he's getting bored, but am obviously awake all that time myself. I just can't function this early, how do I get him to go back to sleeping til 7 again?

He's on two solid meals of purees a day, we've gradually been pushing his bedtime back so he's generally in bed by 7pm now (thought that was what was helping him sleep in a bit later) - is it worth trying to gently push it back a little more? He's generally now sleeping through after his dreamfeed

my DS1 didn't sleep through until he was 10 months (and now aged 9 is ALWAYS up at 6-6.30 and has been like this since he was 10 months)

DS2 slept through at 9 months and sleeps (generally) a little better than his brother.

They tend to have longer sleeps during growth spurts don't they i think.

There is an theory of waking them about 30minutes before they have been waking so they go back to sleep again and should sleep longer. I haven't tried it. DS 9months sleeps until between 5am-7am and nothing we do before bedtime/during the night/in the morning seems to make any difference to when during 5am-7am he wakes.

If I could find a foolproof way of getting my 2 year old to sleep reliably until 6.30 every day I'd be delighted.

My son always wakes up at 6.10am. It matters little what time he goes to bed. You might need to adjust your bedtime!

You may just have to live with it for a while. If he's going to bed at 7pm, he's had 11 hours sleep by 6am and that might be all he needs.

On the bright side, he's generally sleeping through - that's not to be sneezed at.

DD1 went through a loooooong stretch of 4:45 wakings, and DD2 didn't reliably sleep through until 15 months.

7 - 6 plus dreamfeed is pretty good going for a 6mth old.

yes agree with everyone else. you have to live with it sadly
what you can do to make it a bit easier is bring him into bed with you when he wakes so you can snuggle up togther so it doesn't feel so bad

my ds (now 5) has always been an early riser, gets up at 6.30am most days but now he comes down and puts the tv on
dd sleeps in a bit more usually until 7am, she is 2 now, so you might have more luck with no.2
also at weekends do you have an other half who can give you a lie in one morning and he gets one the next morning?

When I was going through similar with my ds1, bith my parents suggested moving his bedtime til a bit later in the hope he'd sleep til a bit later, but it made no difference, it just meant that he was going to bed later, I was going to bed later and he was still getting up at 5:45 and was quite ratty all day.
If you want to encourage him to sleep later, I'd do what Libra suggests. It worked for my ds1 and his day time naps. Other than that, just go with the flow
