Amby Hammock & Swaddle

To anyone with an Amby, I am looking for some tips.

Do any of you swaddle your dc before putting them in the hammock?

DD gets on very well with swaddling and with the Amby but I haven't combined the two.

(AitchTwoOh If you see this, I am not ignoring your comment on this on the other thread - just starting my own!)

hiya Lulu

I've got a hammock, but I don't swaddle dd when she goes into it - she doesn't like it much. swaddling, that is. she'd be ok with the hammock of ds wouldn't insist on rocking her

Thanks Phdlife, hope your dd is letting you get some sleep. Mine isn't...hence the post. I on the quest for the magic combination that gets me more than an hour and a half of uninterrupted sleep!

we swaddled our dd in an amby and she loved it until she was around 12 weeks old when she struggled against any kind if swaddling anywhere.

Shame as she looked so cute all swaddled up, a bit like one of those glowworm night light toys from the 80's!

We used the little bumpers too as dd is / was quite small.

Love the amby, it's been a god send........

Thanks Chen23, we don't have the bumper (DD is 14 weeks and about 14lb) but I wondered if I should get one if we're going to swaddle her in it. Do you think its worth it/she'd fit?

Lulu I used to swaddle my DD in her Amby. I used a Miracle Blanket. After a while I tried her with one arm out and then stopped swaddle at around 16 weeks.

Thanks Steffi!

I am hoping to swaddle for as long as possible! So far I have either swaddled in the moses basket or bounced in the Amby.

I have only just come across the Miracle Blanket - would you recommend it Steffi? I think DD might be too big for it now but my little sis is pg and I'd like to get something like that for her.

I have just ordered a swaddle pod (think thats what its called). I was a bit worried about DD getting out of her swaddle in the Amby and pulling it over her face. The pod thing is like a big sock so it can't come undone. I'll let you know how it goes when it arrives!

Hi Lulu yes I thought the Miracle Blanket was great. Its really light weight so you don't have the worry of them overheating.

I looked into those swaddle pods and if I had needed to swaddle DD any longer then I would have invested.

I too swaddled in the Amby up to about 15 weeks. I didn't bother with the infant bumper thing, but I did roll up a couple of hand/guest towels and stuffed those along his hips/legs when he was tiny to keep him in place.

He is now 20 weeks (big baby) and is definitely very wedged in the Amby so no need for the towels anymore, that's for sure.

My new fear is that he is outgrowing the Amby and will need to transition to a cot soon. Our only experiments with him in a cot have been disastrous. Putting that off for another couple of months hopefully!

i leave dd's legs out, so really it's not a full swaddle, just tucking in her arms tightly with a loose knit shawl so that she doesn't startle. dd's 8 mos, now she knows that i mean business if she's swaddled and getting a bottle, i think it works well as a sleep cue iykwim?

Aitch does your dd just go to sleep in her Amby? We tried putting DD in it sleepy but its like flicking a switch and she is suddenly wide awake.

MomorMum I am dreading the transition to the big cot, I have put DD in it for a few naps and she seems ok but she was very swaddled for all of them!

Steffibabes thanks for that, I think I'll buy one for my sister. Overheating was always my worry with swaddling so that's good to hear.

I tried just really tucking in a cellular blanket last night but I woke up a couple of times to find she'd dragged it over her face so I left her arms out in the end.

I'll try the swaddle pod and won't bother with the bumper then.
