Pregnancy insomnia? Help...need a cure!

Ok if this topic has just been brought up take me into the backyard and shoot me!

I'm 12 weeks and a bit pregnant and I can't sleep... it's been really bad for about 4/5 days... I sleep for 30 minute stints and it takes me ages to get to sleep... I'm sooooo tired... I can't even vacuum (ahem )... I wake up at 2am and my body thinks it's morning and I just lie there! And I can't get to sleep till after 11 ... my DS is running around like some kind of ferral child, all my energy's taken up with changing and feeding him.... *big sigh*... is there a magic cure???

Also I'm not getting out of the house and I'm beginning to go..like...weird!

I remember this exactly. I don't think there are many solutions because it is due to your metabolism working round the clock instead of the usual circadian rhthyms (I think).

You obviously have to check that you are not doing anything to make it worse, in terms of too much caffeine, late eating etc.

Other than that, getting a couple of power naps in the daytime to help you catch up. Exercise/fresh air is very important to. If you can drag yourself to the gym or even just the playground, I'm sure you will feel better, even if you are still insomniac.

Well I absolutely have to tidy our entire front garden and plant loads of bulbs over the weekend, hopefully it'll make me feel a bit more human... I wish my DS wasn't so hyper!

Fast, I can remember not sleeping. I started drinking camomile tea (it takes a bit of getting used to, but it does work), I also found that it calms the baby down in later pregnancy at night time, so you don't get kicked quite so much!. I also bought special blended "sleep inducing oils" to spinkle on my pillow at night, I think Avent make it - they work and I'd recommend having a lavender bath too! Good luck .

Not sure I could stomach horlicks... will try anything though... miracle - DS just fell asleep....*runs to bed!*

I know several people who swear by accupuncture for this specific problem.

I think the accupuncture would give me so many needle nightmares that it might not help! *shudders dramatically*

I woke up DH and begged for sex. I didn't feel like much like sex or sexy at all but it was therapy and the least he could do was be of service. It worked every time.

I totally sympathise Fast as I also had the same problem. I also tried anything under the sun but to no avail. I have been sleeping for 2 weeks now and feel like a new person, but that was after a few months of insomnia. I hate to say this but I believe that it is something that unfortunately happens to some women during pregnancy and that the best way to combat it is to snatch 40 winks when possible during the day and to not stress abt it ! You just need to remind yourself that things will get better and eventually you will sleep.

I'm an aromatherapist and lavender is fine, I used it all the way through. Get some organic grade stuff if you can.

I couldn't sleep either and it was awful so I do sympathise. The worst bit was people saying "oh that's just nature preparing you for when the baby arrives". WTF?!! How is the preparation for no sleep... no sleep?!! Hope you find something that works for you soon. I had good weeks and bad weeks, so it may change for you too.
