wakes every time the dummy falls out

my dd is 6 months tomorrow and has just moved into her own room this week. up until then she was in her cot next to our bed. we struggled until she was 4 months without using a dummy at all, but relented and the difference it has made has been amazing !! she now falls asleep with absolutely no problem when she is put into her cot around 7 - 7.30ish (with her dummy in place). the problem is that she spits the dummy out quite soon after falling asleep and then every time she comes into a light sleep and realises that it's not there she wakes up moaning for it. that's fine while we're still up as we go ands stick it back in and she goes back to sleep immediately. it's not so fine during the night as we now have to get up and go next door to her whereas we previously just leant over from our bed and replaced it./ how can we get her to learn to go back to sleep by herself without the dummy? anyone else had similar experiences?

Get a dummy holder that attaches to her clothes, she'll soon get the hang of finding it herself in the night. Good luck.

my dd had a dummy and we to would spend our lives popping it back in - after 4 months I decided to withdraw it - it was hellish and took three nights - I cleaned so many cupboards in that time while sobbing into my hanky. I felt like such a cow. Luckily she found her thumb and that has replaced her dummy. Good luck

Forgot to say that my ds still in our room so not far for me to go but dreading it when he finally has his own room.
Read in Gina Ford (sorry) that by four months parents should get rid of dummy - she should try and live with my terror and then tell me that.
When I do finally get rid of dummy...I think I may have to try cc...Not looking forward to that.

glad that there's other poor souls out there in the same boat. maybe cc is the only solution, i just don't know whether i'm cut out for it or not - i don't think dh would go for it at all either.

cc is horrible and I hated it - I would say that the morning after the worst night my dd woke up and gave me the biggest smile. I was convinced that she would hate me - but no she was in a great mood.

We used the dummy strap attached to the clothes. Use it during the day for a couple of days to see whether baby can put the dummy back in her mouth, and then move to night time and enjoy the sleep!
