Help me with my DS3 dilemma - to drop the nap or not to drop the nap???

Over the Christmas holidays DS3 (19 months) started getting really stroppy about going down for an afternoon nap), he would have one though, anything from 1/2hr to 3hrs.

That was fine - except that he also started taking AGES to fall asleep at night. I would put him and DS2 (they share a room) up at 8pm as per normal, and DS3 would often still be chattering away at 9.30 - interspersed with the odd whinge as he was bored.

Yesterday he didn't go down for a nap at all, I didn't even try. He coped absolutely fine and was still happy at bedtime. He was asleep by 8.20 GREAT!!!.........

Except this morning he's obviously tired and not had enough sleep. He's incredibly grumpy, and tantruming, and general I can already feel it's going to be a long morning/day with him at this rate.

I think he's going to end up having a nap today, can't see him making it through to bedtime without one. Which almost certainly means he'll take ages to fall asleep. Problem with that is that DS2 really needs his sleep, and DS3 babbling/banging/shouting/singing away in his cot keeps him awake. If DS2 is tired he's also equally grumpy/stroppy/tearful. And this will probably be worse now they're back at school so he'll be tired from that.

So what do I do??

  1. Keep up with the dropped naps and hope he adjusts and stops being so grumpy and stroppy the next day

  1. Keep the naps for now and put up with DS2 being grumpy and stoppy the following day??

aactually scrap that - DS3 is in the most foul mood, I think I'm just going to have to put up with the stroppy 5yr old as at least that's only for a short time in the afternoon after school whereas this screaming/stropping/tantruming is driving me to distraction this morning.

ARGHHHHHHHHHHHHH
