Why am I getting such a hard time?

DS is 6 months old. Bedtime is bath, story, bottle and into cot. He gets a bit fussy which leads to upset. I pick him up, sing him a song and within 5-6 minutes he's spark out in my arms. I put him in his cot at around 6.30 and I don't see him again until morning (DH does a dream feed at 1 am).

Why am I getting such a hard time from people saying he needs to settle himself or he needs to be left to cry?

We tried controlled crying which lasted 2.5 hours. DS was distraught. I was knackered and upset and I just kept thinking he'd have gone to sleep within minutes if I just gave him a cuddle (which I did after the 2.5 hours but it took him about half an hour to calm down).

You are not doing anything unsuitable or wrong for you and your baby. Have faith in yourself and your knowledge of what is best for your child, and just ignore other people's unwanted advice.

Most 'experts' reckon that 6mths is too young for sleep training anyway, so they don't know what they are talking about.

Well, he obviously can self settle, because he is not up and down all night.

People are very opinionated aobut what is the best way to do baby things. If you are all happy then it is perfect!

Ignore then - your baby, your choice.

If it works for you and you're happy then ignore everyone else they are probably jealous that you have such a good sleeper!

Oh and that is fantastic sleeping for a 6 mth old. So you must be doing it right.

BTW, sounds like he is doing really well anyway. He probably has periods of shallower sleep or wakefulness in the night, but if you are not hearing from him till the morning (apart from that feed), he is clearly settling himself and getting a good night's sleep. It might not always be so easy, so just enjoy it whilst you can.

Nooooooo..they are mistaken.

If it ain't broke and all that!

Enjoy your son and keep whoever it is
that's putting pressure on you well away from your family.

He sounds like he's doing great to me Stick with what you're doing, DD doesn't sleep that well at 16 months!

I have a 5 month old and if she slept like that I would be one happy woman.

NO matter what you do with regards sleeping/feeding/weaning a baby someone will disagree because you are not doing it THEIR way.

I'm on baby number 3 and I have learned not to listen to anyone else and do what feels right for your family and your baby. If you are happy with it then sod everyone else.

IMHO a baby under one should never be left to cry, he can learn to settle himself when he is older, he's far too young he will just think he has been abandoned.
