Sleep

Does anybody else's toddler do this?

My almost 17 month old wakes in the middle of the night, talks, sings and screams (in excitement). This can go on for about an hour and then she falls back to sleep again.

It's not a problem for us, but I'm just really curious to know what it's all about and whether it's common?

My son, the same age, does this too. We have put a toy music player on this cot and he plays with this but gets himself back to sleep after an hour or son.

Wonder if it's just our two DCs or if there are any more?

I find it quite funny to hear DD having such a good time in the middle of night, but I just wonder what it's all about?
Daren't go in to her room for a peek in case she thinks it's waking up time ... if only I had CCTV in her room!

Our ds was screaming/chatting 3.30 - 5.00am this morning. I know he didn't want anything, but I was awake for the whole show, and had work the next day. Hope it isn't a trend....

My DS did that too - he grew out of it but sometimes chuckles away at stuff in the middle of the night...

Glad to hear there are a few of them out there, and it's not just my DC
Not quite sure what she finds so hysterical/exciting in the middle of the night as she only has a few cuddly toys in her bed and the room is really quite dark

My dd (2.1) does that too.

DS, aged 2.4 goes thorugh phases of this. He is quite happy and nods off again without any input from us.
It is both annoying and cute, isn't it?

My ds has just started doing this - he's 2. Laughs hysterically like he's telling really funny jokes, mumbles and sings then goes back to sleep.

Generally does this for an hour at 4am

DS's sleep is horribly affected by development. This week (20 months) for the first time since 5.5 mth, he has only woken twice a night. (Though already woke up an hour after putting to bed so think molars are hurting Yet Again tonight.) He utters the most bizarre phrases in the middle of the night, usually something he's recently learned/is currently learning. Last week it was "yellow bus" or "green big truck."
