18mth old - when do I get rid of dummy?

My 18 month old has a dummy for sleep (day nap and night time) and occasionally during the day when he gets a bit wingy!
I am keen to get rid of the dummy but not sure when is the best time and should I just cold turkey him and stick it out - guess this would end up doing controlled crying at bedtime perhaps? Any advice much appreciated..

About 6 months ago! lol. Seriously though it may be hard going but i'd just do it cold turkey. He's too young to make a fuss for too many days before he hopefully forgets. Do it before he hits 2 though or else he WILL remember, my friend had a nightmare getting her 2.2 yr old to get rid of dummy and she enfef up giving in and he still has it now. If you want to do it then go for it. Good luck!

Now! My ds had a dummy until 18 month exactly because on the packets they say "6-18 months". Throw them all out and find other ways to distract him when he's whingy.
Good luck!

Yehhhh .. it worked... cold turkey approach. said goodbye to them, told the older kids no more dummies in the house and after a few crying moments at sleep time he is fine. if anything, talking more (well trying to) and winging less... very pleased with what could have been much harder work! thanks for all the advice.
