How much sleep for 4 year old just started school ?

DS has just started school. Over the summer we were quite relaxed about bed times going to bed around 830-9 waking 7.30-8. This week I have put him to bed around 8 and he is waking up at 6. This morning it was 545. I just can't believe he is getting enoough sleep for school on this schedule. He finishes at one until xmas, yesterday we just chilled out at home in the afternoon I am wondering if he needs some more physical activity after school.

dd (4.10 years) is asleep sometime between 7.45 and 8pm and is normally awake by 7am (sometimes a bit earlier if she wakes for a pee). She also sometimes (not often and never at the weekend!) has a lie in but I get her up by 7.45am so she can get ready for school and have breakfast, etc.

DD1 started school yesterday she is 4.9yrs goes 8.55am until 3.20pm and was in bed (watching a dvd) at 5.30pm, she normally goes to bed at 7pm and sleeps until 7.30/7.45am.

We put DS into bed at 8-8:15pm. He takes 10-25min to fall asleep, and seems to have settled on waking at 6:10-6:30am. I have no idea how to get him to sleep longer.

Dd goes to bed at 7pm (sings until 7.30) wakes at 6.30-7am.

My dd (4.2, half days at school this week and last, full time from next week) goes to bed between 7 and 7.30 and chats to her toys for a while before dropping off to sleep, usually by 8.

She wakes up between 7 and 7.30 usually.

I am lucky, after a period of hardly sleeping at all she is back to being a good sleeper again.

Half days all term naughtymummy - a nice introduction for the dcs, granted, but there would be no way I could work round that if they did it here.

Does he seem tired? If not he's probably getting enough.

DD goes to bed between 7.30 and 8 but doesn't go to sleep until 9.30 or 10! I have to wake her at 8

The early mornings may only be a temporary thing while the excitement of starting school is still fresh.

My dd (4) goes to bed around 7.15pm. She was up at 7.45 today, but we have had some much earlier starts - say 6ish. Usually after a few days she goes back to her average wake up time which is around 7.

We are on half days until Easter!

DD1 goes to bed at 7pm and gets up anytime between 5 and 6am.

She is knackered after school and often asks to go to bed at 6pm but I refuse on the basis she will then be up for the day at 4am!

Ds3 has just started school and he is going full time. He is 4 and 2 weeks old.

I'm getting him to bed anywhere between 6.45 and 7.30 and he gets up about 7.30.

Thank the Lord none of mine have been 5am risers - it would literally kill me!

it is trying to kill me, but i wont let her win!!!

just planning the revenge for when she is older, and wants to sleep later when she has to get up for school - ooooh the possibilities are endless!

You may be right about the excitement.No he dosen't seem particularly tired. I will continueto puthim to bed 730-8 next week,but if the mornings don't get a bit later may start giving him a later bedtime. Before 630 is too early for me

easter jarm blimey and I thought we were hard done by with a week and a half

Ds has been on mornings this week and next week he is 4.11 and has been going to bed around 8pm and wakes up between 6 and 7.30am

nemo - thats the difference though, A is 4.11, J is only 4.2!

We are hoping that they may take her full time in January, as (not blowing trumpet here) she is very bright, is ready easy phonics books alone and can write a variety of words by herself already.

Can only sit and hope!

Ive got 4yrs ahead of me of doing 3 trips to the school a day - great planning! NOT!

(DD1 part time til easter, DD2 in nursery and then when DD2 starts school, DS will start nursery! Roll on september 2012!)
