DS (10 months) wakes up screaming

DS wakes up several times in the night and screams very loud/arches his back. When we pick him up, he continues to scream and kick for "quite a while" (Probably not more than minutes). This is a completely new behaviour, he used to immediately calm down after we picked him up. He seems to young for night terrors, what could it be? He is not sick, not hungry. Could he be too warm? We are clueless. Thanks for any ideas!

Bumping for you as I'd like to know too! Dd does this - also several times a night, but can continue crying - even in my arms - for up to an hour! The only thing that stops her is the boob, but not a long term solution, I know. Hope someone comes up with something that actually helps, but in the meantime, know that you're not alone!

Hi Minicooper. It's always good to hear others are in the same boat. DS will also cry for up to an hour, but not with the same vigor as in he first ten minutes. Boob is the only thing that soothes him, but I would like to nightwean him again after an ear infection he is fully recovered from. DH has no chance calming him, so it's (used to work really well), so it's really on me. How old is your DD?

My DS 13 month does the same, however I noticed that once he cries after a while he will pee and only than settle down. He sleeps without any nappy so I know this.

Thanks for sharing tweety. I am very interested about the no-nappy at night thing. Could you tell me a little more? We have held DS over the toilet when he needs to poop for a long time (work about 90% of the time), but sill use nappies all the time for urin. I would be very interested when I can stop this.

If my DD woke up with a full bladder at that age, she would scream until she wee'd. I use to hold her on a potty and heavily sigh so I relaxed, this would help her to calm down and wee.

TO anonymxxx :
regarding no nappy at night time. I just use a lot of sheets folded several times with a towel in between, so when he wees at night it will not go thru onto matress, then if he weed I just chagnge a new folded sheet with towel in between under him so he sleeps in dry. thta's all. (allot of washing to do in the orning though). I find that nappys making his testies too hot so I am prefer for him to go nappy free. Even the cloth nappys I find to hot for him. Plus he never suffered from nappy rash since his bits are most of the time air dry. or just briefs and shorts. Once he wees i quickly chnage and wipe the floor so its fine with me.
