My daughter sees a ghost

Hi my daughter has just turned 4 and has always been an amazing sleeper since I can remember. Last month she told me a black man stands in the corner of her room but he hasnt got a face. She said she has tried talking to him but because he hasnt got a face he wont talk back. She sees him in her room every night and two weeks ago she told me he threw her soft toy unicorn at her. She told him to stop and turned over to sleep she told me. Last night we have redecorated her room and I've moved her bed onto the opposite wall where he stands. Last night she woke up 3 times screaming foe me saying he was really close to her floating over her bed. I got the night light out and plugged it in and she was fine for the rest of the night. What should I do?

Burn the house and never go back Shock

Oh my god I got goose bumps reading that, do you believe her?

I think I'm such a scaredy cat I'd have the house up for sale and be out of there Confused

Well ghosts don’t exist so must be a repeating dream / night paralysis. It’s quite common for little kids to report a person standing over their bed at night. If she can sleep Ok with the nightlight keep that on till it passes?

She doesn't see ghosts. They don't exist.

Tell her to send the ghost back to the made up.

I saw a ghost nightly at a similar age. It was in the hallway outside my room.
As an adult I can see the shadow that was my 'ghost' (the way a light from the next house comes through the window of my parents house). But it was very real when I was a child.

Whatever you do don't leave her alone and scared.

Gosh that sounds so scary for her, and you. Is there another room she can sleep in? Can you sleep in her room for a night and tell her to wake you if it happens again?

Night light, holy water, sound machine, exorcism

Is there anyway you can switch rooms?it must be very traumatising for her. Night terrors are common at that age and hallucinations is part of that. Maybe a different room would help? My child suffers from nightmares and sees huge spiders often. He was convinced they were coming from the window so we switched rooms and it seems to have worked.

Thanks for the replies. Think I'm going to try and get her to draw a picture of him to see what she draws to try and understand better. Might leave the night light on tonight and if it happens with it on I will sleep in her bed tomorro

In the Book You Wish Your Parents Had Read, a monster under the bed could be a manifestation of a worry the child has - perhaps seeing a ghost is the same thing? I like the sound of her drawing it. Poor little thing! I hope the sleep gets better for both of you soon.

Is it caused by a shadow of something? Making it look like a person?

I absolutely don’t believe in ghosts. However, something happened to me one night in hospital that can only have been a ghost.

Do you believe in ghosts OP?
I don't and if a child of mine did this my first assumption would be night terrors, or overactive imagination, or a worry that is manifesting itself in this way.
So I'd approach it in the way I'd deal with those problems.
I wouldn't be dismissive because it is real to her of course.

I was once told they were angels watching us. However, I think saying go towards the light is better, and play it down. My own home had an entity. I told it it did not live here anymore, and needed to go towards the light. It disappeared.

Otherwise ask the Spiritual Thread on here. They could give you clarity

Shamelessly curious here about what happened but don’t worry if you can’t say!

This sort of thing really freaks me out. I would sleep in her room and see if anything happens. I would make dh come with me though!

Poor baby, she just be terrified. I used to sense something in an old house. Had the same recurrent dream. Heard things move. Never had it after we moved.

Can you get a monitor/camera in there to watch her?

I have a friend whose 4 children and her husband have seen a ghost regularly in their house. He just sits on the sofa, but she has never seen him, despite being in the same room at the same time.
